ONALASKA — The third-seeded Onalaska High School girls soccer team started its postseason with a 4-0 victory over sixth-seeded Altoona/Fall Creek in a WIAA Division 2 regional semifinal on Tuesday.

The Hilltoppers (10-7-1) scored all of their goals in the second half to earn a championship game against second-seeded River Falls (13-5-1) in River Falls on Saturday.

Senior Isabella Cromheecke and junior Finley Walters each had one goal and one assist for Onalaska, which lost a 3-1 nonconference game to the Wildcats — ranked eighth in Division 2 by state coaches — in April.

The Hilltoppers have won two games in a row and six of their past eight as they tackle a way to reverse their first outcome against River Falls.

Cromheecke scored with an assist from Walters in the 42nd minute to break a scoreless tie.

Sophomore McKenna Alderman scored unassisted in the 52nd minute, and Walters scored on a pass from Cromheecke in the 71st minute for a 3-0 lead.

The final goal was scored by junior Elizabeth Witcik with an assist from junior Lilli Ryan in the 78th minute.

Sophomore Avery Cowley had three saves as Onalaska recorded its seventh shutout of the season.

Central 7, Baraboo 1

LA CROSSE — The second-seeded RiverHawks (9-4-2) overwhelmed the seventh-seeded Thunderbirds at Swanson Field with four first-half goals that gave them a home game against third-seeded Portage/Poynette on Saturday.

That game will kick off at 7 p.m. and take place at Swanson Field.

Senior Grace Wilkerson scored five goals, and goalkeeper Cam Woyczik faced only three shots from Baraboo (2-16).

Wilkerson scored unassisted in the third minute and with an assist from Mae Yang in the 29th. Chloe Ackerman then converted a pass from Pa Zong Yang in the 33rd minute, and Wilkerson was set up by Ackerman to make it 4-0 in the 38th.

Mae Yang assisted on both of Wilkerson’s second-half goals and scored with an assist from Cleo Fannin.

Central did not play Portage/Poynette (12-7-1) during the regular season and is 4-1-1 in its past six games.

Holmen 8, Menomonie 0

GALESVILLE — The top-seeded Vikings (15-3-1) recorded their 13th shutout of the season and scored six goals in the second half.

Holmen will host fourth-seeded New Richmond on Saturday at G-E-T with a regional championship on the line.

Junior Lydia Sader scored four goals and assisted on another as the Vikings moved their winning streak to nine games and shut out their sixth straight opponent.

Sader and sophomore Ava River scored in the first half to give Holmen its 2-0 lead. Peyton Schneider assisted on Sader’s goal in the 10th minute, and Amelia Dewey assisted on Rivera’s in the 26th as the Vikings found a couple of ways to slip behind Menomonie’s back line.

Rivera scored her second goal of the game and had two assists in the second half to run her season totals to nine goals and seven assists.

Dewey had two more second-half assists, and Saige Ratajski and Jocelyn Williams added one goal apiece in the second half.

Ratajski scored on a high, arcing ball that she sent from 20 yards out, Sader scored one of hers on a 30-yard run alone at the goal.

Mallory Kemper also had an assist in the second half as junior Moira Linse completed the shutout with one save in each half.

Linse’s life was made easy by the play of a back line that included Schneider, Morgan Potaracke, Ave Amundson, Ellie Hoehn, Aspyn Truwe and Layni Wood.

Tomah 2, Logan/Luther 1

TOMAH — The fourth-seeded Timberwolves beat the fifth-seeded Rangers (9-8-2), who entered the postseason with a three-game winning streak.
