LA CROSSE — The Onalaska High School girls soccer team closed out its regular season with an impressive victory over the state’s eighth-ranked Division 4 team.

The Hilltoppers scored once in the first half and twice in the second to hand Aquinas a 3-2 defeat in an MVC round-robin game at Fields for Kids on Thursday.

The outcome stopped the Blugolds’ chances of capturing a share of the conference championship. Holmen is 9-0 in the MVC and plays Aquinas in the final game of the regular season on Tuesday with an outright championship already in its pocket.

The Blugolds (12-2-0, 7-2-0) would have forced a tie at the top with wins over Onalaska and Holmen.

Onalaska (9-7-1, 6-3-1) tied the game at late in the first half when sophomore Ellie Thesing scored the first of her three goals.

She also connected on a penalty kick to break that tie in the second half and added an insurance goal that became necessary when senior Alaina Elias scored to get Aquinas within the final margin with about five minutes left to play.

Sophomore Hannah Miller gave Aquinas a 1-0 lead early in the game, and the Blugolds kept the pressure on Onalaska’s defense throughout the first half until Thesing’s first goal.

Senior Alexa Myre had an assist for Aquinas.

West Salem 1, Central 1

WEST SALEM — The Panthers (6-5-3, 5-2-3 MVC) earned the tie when freshman Mia Lehman provided an assist for senior Maya Hoff in the 79th minute.

The teams also tied in their first meeting of the season, and Central completed its regular season with a 7-4-2 overall record and 3-4-2 MVC mark.

West Salem went 5-0-1 in its final six conference games.

Logan/Luther 5, Arcadia/Independence 0

LA CROSSE — The Rangers (7-7-2, 3-5-1 MVC) bounced back from a nonconference loss and won for the fourth time in five games by scoring once in the first half and four times in the second half at Swanson Field.

Senior Emma Kolb had a foot in every goal, finishing two shots and setting up the other three.

Kolb scored with an assist from Mackenzie Torgerud in the 16th minute for a 1-0 halftime lead before assisting Ong Moua for the first goal of the second half.

Kolb scored the third with an assist from Moua, assisted Riley Horn on the fourth and assisted Moua on the fifth.

Logan/Luther had 21 shots and seven corner kicks while holding the Raiders without a shot.
