HOLMEN — The Holmen High School softball team used a three-run fifth inning to kickstart a doubleheader sweep over River Falls at Viking Elementary on Friday.
Gabi Stuhr pitched a three-hit shutout, and Abby Hoffman didn’t allow an earned run during a complete game as the Vikings won 4-0 and 7-1.
Holmen (10-4) has won five games in a row after the sweep, and Stuhr struck out four and walked three during her shutout.
The three-run fifth inning in the first game broke a scoreless tie. Second baseman Makenzie Nunemacher started it with an RBI single, and first baseman Kaylee Mosser and catcher Avalee Euler followed it with run-scoring singles of their own.
Euler was 2 for 4 in the opener.
The Vikings scored all of their runs in the first three innings of the second game and overcame three errors.
Shortstop Macy Kline and Nunemacher were both 3 for 4 with two runs scored, and Mosser doubled and drove in three runs.
Right fielder Harper Tengblad also hit a solo home run to center in the third.
West Salem 5, Aquinas 4
LA CROSSE — The Panthers (14-2) scored all of their runs before the Blugolds (6-6) scored four times in the bottom of the fifth inning at Pammel Creek.
Shortstop/first baseman Madison Elsen was 3 for 4 and drove in two runs and Brenna Pontius 2 for 3 with two runs driven in for West Salem, which extended its winning streak to five games.
First baseman Ava Scholze was 2 for 3, and right fielder Anna Waldvogel had a two-run single for Aquinas.
The Panthers went to pitcher Josie Brudos for the final three innings, and she struck ut four without allowing a hit or a walk.
Melrose-Mindoro 10, Independence/Gilmanton 2
INDEPENDENCE — The Mustangs (10-2) answered the Indees’ two-run bottom of the first inning by scoring the final eight runs and plated five of those in the top of the sixth.
Pitcher Opal Bucnahan was 2 for 4 with a double, a home run and four runs driven in. She also pitched a complete-game four-hitter with two strikeouts and just one walk.
Shortstop Cooper Zeman was also 2 for 4 and scored four runs for Melrose-Mindoro, which has won four of its past five games.
Bucnahan’s home run was a three-run shot to center field in the sixth.
G-E-T 11, Logan 6
GALESVILLE — The Rangers (6-6) scored three runs in the top of the fourth to get within 6-4, but the Red Hawks scored two in the bottom of the fourth and three in the fifth to pull away.
Pitcher/first baseman Kaia DePaolo was 3 for 4 with a double, and shortstop/pitcher Emma Bacon 2 for 4 with three runs driven in for Logan.
Catcher Maria Weber also had a single and stole two bases for the Rangers.
Sparta 5, Luther 2
SPARTA — The Knights (2-13) scored single runs in the first and fourth innings, but the Spartans broke a 2-2 tie with a run in the fifth and two more in the sixth.
Third baseman Karlie Bauer doubled and drove in a run for Luther, right fielder Ava Schaller singled and drove in a run, and first baseman Alaina Kuehner tripled.
Addy Palubicki struck out nine, walked one and allowed seven hits in a complete game.

Wisconsin Rapids 12, Onalaska 2 (6)
CHIPPEWA FALLS — The Hilltoppers (6-6) were held to one hit by the Cardinals and allowed four runs in the first inning and four more in the second against the Red Raiders.
Center fielder Cayenne Zinnecker was 2 for 3 and right fielder MJ Heit 2 for 3 with a stolen base to lead Onalaska against Wisconsin Rapids.
Pitcher/first baseman Zoey Lichty and second baseman Kylie Gillhausen each drove in a run in the second game.
Lichty broke up the no-hit bid by Chippewa Falls in the first game with a leadoff single in the seventh.
