Monday softball: Rozek dominant for Melrose-Mindoro in conference victory; Brudos homers and pitches 2-hitter for West Salem

MELROSE — Senior Bella Rozek hit four doubles and pitched a one-hitter to keep the Melrose-Mindoro softball team an unbeaten one on Monday.

Rozek struck out 10 — the side in order once — and allowed Alma/Pepin just one single to center field with two outs in the fifth inning in the Mustangs’ 11-1 five-inning victory.

Rozek was 4 for 4, and her four doubles drove in four runs. She also scored three times for Melrose-Mindoro, which has won its first six games of the season and four in a row by the 10-run rule.

The Mustangs finished with 13 hits. Second baseman Opal Buchanan was 3 for 3 with an RBI and two runs scored, and shortstop Cooper Zeman went 2 for 3 with two runs scored. Miranda Banse and Ellie Sawyer also drove in two runs each.

West Salem 6, Westby 1

WESTBY — Senior Josie Brudos hit a home run and pitched a two-hitter for the Panthers (8-1, 5-1 Coulee) in a win over the Norsemen.

Brudos also walked three times in addition to the solo home run she hit to lead off the game. She also scored three runs as West Salem scored at least once in five of the seven innings.

Third baseman Briauna Mathison was 2 for 3 and second baseman Parker Powell and designated player Brooklyn Haverly-Ghelfi both 2 for 4 for the Panthers.

Haverly-Ghelfi doubled, and shortstop Madison Elsen tripled as Brudos struck out 15 batters and walked two in a complete game.

Black River Falls 6, Luther 2

ONALASKA — Junior shortstop Kaitlyn Van Loon singled and drove in a run for the Knights, who scored in the first and fourth innings before giving up two runs in the top of the sixth.
