Saturday softball: Aquinas wins 2 at triangular; Rozek strikes out 18 for Mustangs

ONALASKA — The Aquinas High School softball team has its bats going to win twice at a triangular hosted by Luther on Saturday.

The Blugolds (5-3) scored 28 runs on 19 hits to beat Bangor 14-2 in five innings and Osseo-Fairchild 14-5.

Abby Ziolkowski struck out seven, allowed two singles and walked no one over four innings in the win over Bangor. She was also 2 for 3 with a double, three runs driven in and four scored.

Outfielder Julia Kretschmer and left fielder/pitcher Brynn Grabowski also drove i two runs apiece for Aquinas, which pushed its winning streak to four games.

The Blugolds opened their game against O-F with a seven-run first inning.

Shortstop Ava Fernholz was 3 for 4 with a stolen base, two runs driven in and two runs scored, while catcher Ryann Klar was 2 for 4 with a double and three runs driven in.

First baseman Ava Scholze drilled a two-run homer in the top of the seventh and drove in three runs. Third baseman Lauren VonRuden was also 3 for 5 with two runs driven in.

Melrose-Mindoro 4, Brookwood 1

MELROSE — Senior Bella Rozek pitched a one-hitter and went 2 for 3 with an RBI for the Mustangs (8-1).
Rozek struck out 18 batter, walked five and allowed just a single to lead off the fifth.

Right fielder Miranda Banse was also 2 for 3 for Melrose-Mindoro, which received a double from left fielder Lauralee Stanton.

Caledonia 10, Stewartville 1

CALEDONIA — The Warriors (11-1) won their seventh game in a row by pairing 12 hits with five Stewartville errors.

Avery Augedahl struck out 12, allowed two singles and one unearned run without walking a batter for Caledonia.

First baseman Elsa Blum was 3 for 3 with a double and left fielder Brairy Proulx 2 for 3 with a double and two runs driven in.

Third baseman Paizley Lange and Augedahl also had two hits apiece and catcher Adrienne Lange a double for the Warriors. Augedahl and Lange also stole two bases each.

Merrill 11, Logan 0 (5)
Logan 6, Portage 5

PORTAGE — The Rangers (5-4) split two games at an invitational hosted by Portage.

Logan was no-hit in the first game before scoring the first four runs and winning the second.

Third baseman Kenna Streeck and catcher Maria Weber both scored twice against the Warriors as the Rangers made the most out of three hits.

Pitcher Kaia DePaolo drove in two runs and Weber, Mariana Rojo and first baseman Claire Schmitz one each for Logan.

Merrill 11, West Salem 6
West Salem 7, Poynette 1

PORTAGE — The Panthers (10-2) had an eight-game winning streak snapped with a split at Portage.

Josie Brudos struck out seven, walked two and allowed six hits in the win over Poynette. She was also 3 for 4 with two doubles, an RBI and three runs scored.

West Salem had 14 hits in the victory. Brenna Pontius, first baseman Madison Elsen, shortstop Parker Powell, catcher Brylee Vick and third baseman Briauna Mathison all had two hits.

Mathison drove in two runs, and Elsen and Brooklyn Lee doubled.

Brudos also doubled twice in the loss to Merrill. She and second baseman Brooklyn Haverly-Ghelfi were both 2 for 4, and Powell drove in two runs. Haverly-Ghelfi and Lee both doubled.

LA CROSSE — The RiverHawks (2-8) scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to win the first of two games played at Shelby.

A double by Norah Holkup scored Ellie Gillitzer to tie the first game in the seventh, and an error that allowed courtesy runner Madison Walz to score ended it.

Gillitzer was 2 for 4 and Holkup 2 for 3 for Central, which recorded four stolen bases.

Center fielder Elena Wagner went 2 for 3, third baseman Addie Lenz 2 for 2, and Gillitzer doubled in the second game.

Waunakee 8, Holmen 2

HOLMEN — The Vikings (5-4) gave up the first six runs — including three in the fifth — and couldn’t catch up to the Warriors.

Shortstop Macy Kline and second baseman Makenzie Nunemacher were both 2 for 4 with a run scored, and third baseman Avalee Euler was 2 for 4 with a double for Holmen.

DeForest 8, Onalaska 0
Waunakee 13, Onalaska 0 (5)

ONALASKA — The Hilltoppers (3-4) were beaten twice without scoring a run at Jaycee Fields.

Onalaska was able to get just three hits –= all singles — during the nonconference games. Center fielder MJ Heit stole two bases in the opener.

Osseo-Fairchild 3, Luther 0
Bangor 12, Luther 11

ONALASKA — The Knights scored twice in the top of the sixth inning but couldn’t catch up in the loss to the Cardinals.

Maddie Horvat was 4 for 4 with a double, two runs driven in and three scored for Luther against Bangor.

Third baseman Rylee Weber was 3 for 5 and drove in three runs, center fielder Avery Berg was 2 for 4 with a double, first baseman Alaina Kuehner was 2 for 3 and scored four times, and catcher Hannah Lipps drove in three runs.
