HOLMEN — The Holmen High School softball team made a run at Tomah on Tuesday, but the Timberwolves prevailed 5-2 by scoring the final three runs at Viking Elementary School.
The Vikings (2-3, 2-1 MVC) scored once in the bottom of the first inning and once in the bottom of the third.
Shortstop Macy Kline was 2 for 3 and scored both runs for Holmen, which tied the score each time it plated a run.
Kline reached on an infield single in the first before stealing second base. She scored on a single off the bat of first baseman Kaylee Mosser.
Kline also singled and stole second base in the third. She advanced to third on a groundout and scored on a throw to first that retired Mosser at first after a dropped third strike.
Kline had three stolen bases, and pitcher Gabi Stuhr struck out seven walked one and allowed four earned runs on 11 hits for Holmen, which was retired by strikeout 13 times by University of Wisconsin commit Anna Wall.
Melrose-Mindoro 16, Alma Center Lincoln 0 (4)
ALMA CENTER — Opal Buchanan pitched a no-hitter and struck out four batters while walking two for the unbeaten Mustangs (5-0).
Buchanan walked one batter with one out in the second inning and another with two outs in the third. An error put two runners aboard in the third, but Buchanan got out of the inning with a strikeout.
Nine Melrose-Mindoro batters had at least one hit, and 12 of the team’s 13 hits were singles while it scored four runs in the first, six in the second and six in the third.
Second baseman Bella Rozek was 3 for 4 with a double, three runs driven in and three runs scored.
Shortstop Cooper Zeman was 2 for 3, scored twice, stole two bases and drove in a run.
Catcher Anna Radcliffe drove in three runs and first baseman Eva Osgood two. Right fielder Miranda Banse was also 2 for 2, and Buchanan scored three times.
Caledonia 14, St. Charles 1 (5)
ST. CHARLES — The Warriors (6-1) scored nine runs in the fourth inning to separate from the Saints.
Junior Avery Augedahl was 3 for 4 with a single, a triple and a home run to go with three runs driven in and two scored.
Augedahl also pitched a three-hitter than included seven strikeouts, no walks and no earned runs allowed.
Left fielder Nora Staggemeyer was 2 for 3, third baseman Paizley Lange went 2 for 4, and left fielder Brairy Proulx was 2 for 3. Proulx drove in two runs.
Augedahl’s home run was a solo shot that led off the fourth, and center fielder Ashlyn Reinhart stole three bases.
