WEST SALEM — West Salem High School senior Josie Brudos was a wrecking machine for her softball team on Thursday as it beat Luther 18-1 in five innings for a Coulee Conference victory.
The Panthers (7-1, 4-1 Coulee) won their sixth game in a row, reached double figures in runs scored for the fourth time and scored 13 times in the bottom of the fourth inning.
Brudos hit two home runs, went 3 for 3 and drove in four runs for the Panthers, who had 15 hits. She hit a two-run home run in the second inning and another two-run shot in the fourth.
Brudos also allowed two hits and struck out seven batters over four innings.
Second baseman/pitcher Parker Powell was 3 for 3 with a double and four runs driven in, and shortstop/first baseman Madison Elsen and second baseman Brenna Pontius drove in two runs each. Powell doubled and tripled, and Pontius tripled twice.
Center fielder Brooklyn Lee was 2 for 4 with three runs driven in, and third baseman Briauna Mathison tripled while going 2 for 2.
Holmen 4, Onalaska 3
ONALASKA — The Vikings got a groundout with runners on second and third base for the final out in a 4-3 MVC victory over Onalaska at Jaycee Fields on Thursday.
Holmen (3-3, 3-1) tied the game on a wild pitch in the sixth inning before breaking the tie on an error in the seventh.
Left fielder Sydney Cichosz was 2 for 3 with a double and two runs scored. She scored the tying run in the sixth by advancing from second on two wild pitches.
First baseman Kaylee Moser was 3 for 4 with two stolen bases, and center fielder Makenna McHugh swiped two of her own. Third baseman Kaitlyn Weiss also drove in a run for the Vikings.
Right fielder MJ Heit was 2 for 4 with a home run and a single for the Hilltoppers (2-1, 2-1), who also received an RBI from Sydney Kraus and led 3-2 after Heit’s home run to center field in the fifth.
Caledonia 12, La Crescent-Hokah 1 (5)
CALEDONIA — The Warriors (7-1) broke things open against the Lancers with an eight-run second inning, and Avery Augedahl pitched a one-hitter.
Augedahl struck out 10, walked one and allowed one single and one unearned run. She also went 2 for 3 with a home run and two runs driven in.
Third baseman Paizley Lange was 3 for 3 with a doubles and three runs driven in, first baseman Elsa Blum was 2 for 3 with two runs driven in, and shortstop Lily Wiebke drove in two runs.
Caledonia has won three games in a row and is averaging 11.3 runs per game this season.
Logan 15, Central 2 (5)
LA CROSSE — The Rangers (3-2, 1-2 MVC) enjoyed a five-run second inning and a five-run fifth in beating the RiverHawks.
Thirteen of Logan’s 14 hits were singles, and seven stolen bases helped push them to end the game early.
Catcher Maria Weber went 2 for 4 and drove in three runs, and pitcher Sophie Schmitz went 2 for 3 and drove in three runs. Designated player Mariana Rojo was 3 for 4 and second baseman Norah Keller 2 for 4 with a double and three runs driven in.
Outfielder Cassidy Van Voorhis also drove in two runs and scored three times, and Emma Bacon was 2 for 3 for the Rangers. Addy Roesler was 2 for 3 and drove in a run for Central (1-6, 1-1).
Aquinas 8, Sparta 4
SPARTA — The Blugolds (2-3, 1-3 MVC) picked up their first conference win of the season and scored six of their runs in the sixth and seventh innings.
First baseman Ava Scholze was 4 for 4 with a triple, and pitcher Abby Ziolkowski 2 for 5 with three runs driven in for Aquinas, which broke a 2-2 tie with two runs in the sixth before getting four more in the seventh. Ziolkowski also hit a double while striking out seven, walking seven and allowing three hits in a complete game.
Shortstop Ava Fernholz was 2 for 4 with two runs driven in and two scored to go with a stolen base. Second baseman Addy Watson, outfielder Brynn Grabowski and catcher Ryann Klar also had two hits apiece for the Blugolds. Grabowski also doubled.
