ONALASKA — The West Salem High School softball team used two big innings early to pave the way for a 12-0 five-inning Coulee Conference victory over Luther on Monday.

The Panthers (6-1, 3-1 Coulee) scored four runs in the first inning and three in the third to give starting pitcher Josie Brudos plenty of support in a one-hitter.

Brudos struck out 13 — including the first 10 batters — and walked two while allowing only allowing a two-out single to Kenzie Bauer in the fourth inning. She also scored three runs.

Center fielder Brooklyn Lee went 2 for 3 and drove in four runs for West Salem, which had 11 hits. Lee hit a two-run home run in the first inning and a two-run single in the second.

Shortstop Madison Elsen and second baseman Parker Powell each drove in two runs. Powell was 2 for 4, and Elsen doubled.

Brudos and third baseman Briauna Mathison also singled twice each. Brudos scored three runs and Mathison two.

Caledonia 5, Winona 2

WINONA — The Warriors (5-1) broke a tied score with three runs in the top of the seventh inning against the Winhawks.

Caledonia used four hits to score the three seventh-inning runs. Left fielder Nora Staggemeyer doubled home Avery Audegahl with the first run, and center fielder Ashlyn Reinhart hit a two-out triple to bring home two more runs later in the inning.

Augedahl, who struck out 10, walked one and allowed two hits, retired Winona in order in the bottom of the seventh to seal the win.

First baseman Elsa Blum was 3 for 3 with a triple, two runs scored and one driven in, and third baseman Paizley Lange was 2 for 4.

Reinhart drove in three runs with the two-run triple following a sacrifice fly in the fourth.
