Wednesday boys golf: Onalaska wins MVC meet at Cedar Creek; Holmen’s Halaska is medalist

ONALASKA — The Onalaska High School boys golf team won its second MVC meet in three tries by shooting a collective 319 at The Golf Club at Cedar Creek on Wednesday.

The Hilltoppers beat second-place Holmen by two strokes and third-place Aquinas by four in a tight 18-hole contest.

Holmen senior Cale Halaska shot an even-par 71 for individual medalist honors, and he navigated the course with three birdies and three bogeys. Halaska broke par on Nos. 2, 6 and 17 and started his round on No. 1. He played the final eight holes at 1 under.

The Hilltoppers prevailed with three of the top eight individuals.

Freshman Ryan Tomashek shot a 77 for third place, and sophomore Chasen Witt and senior John Werwinski were part of a tie for eighth at 80. Sophomore Grayson Andel added an 82.

Aquinas was led by runner-up sophomore Michael Jones and his 73. Jones had four birdies and six bogeys during his round.

Holmen senior Spencer Gault was fourth (79), and Logan/Central sophomore Sid Hooyman and senior Maddox Herlitzke both forced him to share his spot with identical scores.
