Saturday boys golf: Onalaska wins invitational at Sparta behind co-medalists Tomashek and Witt

SPARTA — Rylan Tomashek and Chasen Witt tied for medalist honors while leading the Onalaska High School boys golf team to a championship in the Singh Grewal Invitational on Saturday.

Tomashek and Witt both shot 2-over-par 74, and the Hilltoppers played their way to a score of 304, which helped them beat second-place Baraboo (320) and third-place Sparta (322).

Holmen was fourth (324), Aquinas fifth (325), Logan/Central eighth (355), West Salem ninth (362) and Luther 12th (376) in the 16-team field at River Run.

Tomashek and Witt finished one shot ahead of third-place Braiden Hoehn of Mosinee. James Siegert was fourth for Aquinas with a 76, and Logan Pinnow fifth for Holmen with a 77.

Tomashek, a sophomore, was 1 under with three birdies (Nos. 1, 3 and 6) on the front nine and birdied No. 14 and No. 17 on the back but shot 3 over.

Witt, a junior, was 1 over on the front and 1 over on the back. He birdied No. 4, No. 5, , No. 11 and No. 14.
The Hilltoppers also received scoring rounds from sophomore Colten Schroeder and freshman Asher Andel, who finished with 78s.

Siegert eagled No. 9 and birdied No. 17 to highlight his round. The Blugolds also received scoring rounds from junior Jack Vogel (81), junior Michael Jones (81) and sophomore Luke Jones (87).

Pinnow birdied No. 1 and led the fourth-place Vikings. Senior Braylan Welch added an 81 and junior Gavin Steffen and senior Cole Vanlin 83s for the team score.

Central/Logan’s low score came from junior Syd Hooyman (85) and other scoring rounds from freshman Nate Brudos (88), junior Harper Kendle (90) and junior Tait Hatlevig (92).

Junior Noah Wachter shot an 81 to lead West Salem and was 13th individually with an 81.. Freshman Cadyn Reding shot a 90, junior Kayden Tauscher a 95 and senior Coen Knutson a 96.

Luther’s low round of 88 came from sophomore Robert Bruns, and he was followed by freshman Jonah Matzke (92), senior Brody Greeno (95) and freshman Alex Iverson (101).
