Wednesday boys golf: Onalaska wins MVC meet at Drugan’s behind Tomashek’s 2-under 69

HOLMEN — The Onalaska High School boys golf team continued its MVC success with another comfortable win in a conference meet at Drugan’s Castle Mound.

The Hilltoppers put together a score of 300 behind meet medalist Rylan Tomashek’s round of 2-under-par 69, who finished on top of the pack placing third once and tying for third once.

The sophomore played the front nine at 1 under with birdies at No. 1 and No. 3 and shot 1 under on the back nine with birdies at No. 10 and No. 16. He also broke par Monday with a 70 at the Blackhawk Country Club in Madison for the Edgewood Invitational.

Junior Chasen Witt added a 2-over 73, freshman Asher Andel a 5-over 76 and sophomore Colten Schroeder an 11-over 82 for the Hilltoppers, who won the first conference meet of the season by 17 strokes and the second by nine.

Holmen and Aquinas tied for third place at 322, and the Central/Logan co-op was fifth (334).

Witt was second individually, Aquinas junior Jack Vogel third (74) and Andel and Central/Logan junior Sid Hooyman tied for fifth (76).

Vogel was joined by sophomore James Siegert (80) and junior Michael Jones (83), while junior Gabe Hundt and sophomore Luke Jones tied at 85.

The Vikings were led by seventh-place senior Logan Pinnow (77). Senior Braylan Welch and junior Gavin Steffen shot 81s and senior Sawyer Genz an 83.

Hooyman was backed by an 85 from junior Tait Hatlevig, an 86 from sophomore Sam Hansen and an 87 from freshman Nate Brudos.
