HOLMEN — Bennett Schild and Chris Holmes combined to pitch a two-hit shutout as the Holmen High School baseball team put the finishing touches on an outright MVC championship on Thursday.
Schild struck out eight batters over five two-hit innings, and Holmen struck out three over two hitless innings as the Vikings beat visiting Central 2-0 in the final game of the regular season.
The Vikings (16-7, 10-2 MVC) beat the RiverHawks for the second time this week and scored once in the fourth inning and once in the fifth.
Shortstop Nolan Lomas brought home Alex Goryl on a sacrifice fly in the fourth, and Jason Bramwell plated Mason Flury with a sacrifice fly in the fifth for the only two runs of the game.
Kenden Bishofsky pitched a complete game for Central (10-12, 6-6) and allowed four hits and six walks while striking out three.
Aquinas 9, Tomah 1
LA CROSSE — The Blugolds (14-5, 9-3) completed a second-place conference finish by avenging a loss to the Timberwolves earlier this week.
Shortstop Marcus Klar singled three times and drove in four runs during a 3-for-4 performance for Aquinas.
First baseman Landon Teachout drove in two runs, and second baseman Cullen Swanson was 2 for 3. Waylon Hargrove and Ryan Johnson each scored three runs for the Blugolds.
Senior Aedan David allowed two hits and struck out two batters in a complete game. David also doubled and allowed just one unearned run.
West Salem 7, Arcadia 2
ARCADIA — The Panthers (8-12, 7-5 Coulee) scored four runs in the top of the second inning
Shortstop Mekebo Anderson went 3 for 4 with a double and two stolen bases on the way to scoring three runs for West Salem, which had four extra-base hits.
First baseman Terryn Boland was 2 for 4 with two doubles and drove in three runs, and pitcher Bennett Rieber added a pair of runs driven in. Designated hitter Luke Grube doubled.
Sparta 6, Logan 3
SPARTA — The Rangers (14-10, 3-9) didn’t score until the sixth inning and allowed the Spartans to score the first five runs.
Third baseman/pitcher Jackson Bosch was 2 for 4 with a double, and pitcher/third baseman Owen Check went 2 for 4 with a double and one RBI.
Preston Elston also doubled for Logan.
G-E-T 10, Luther 0 (6)
GALESVILLE — The Knights (3-16, 3-9) were held to three singles in a loss to the Red Hawks.
Shortstop Calvin Rick, first baseman Max Lorenz and pitcher/right fielder Jonny Holb each had a hit for Luther.
Westby 15, Melrose-Mindoro 3 (5)
MELROSE — The Mustangs (13-5)scored twice in the bottom of the first, but the Norsemen scored nine in the top of the second.
