Thursday postseason softball: Caledonia march in MSHSL continues; Aquinas opens WIAA regional with win

ROCHESTER — The Caledonia High School softball team took another step forward with another dominant performance in the MSHSL Section 1AA tournament on Thursday.

The top-seeded Warriors (24-2) broke away from fifth-seeded St. Charles with a five-run fifth inning in what became a 9-1 victory at the Rochester Youth Softball Complex.

Caledonia advances to play third-seeded Winona Cotter/Hope Lutheran at 3 p.m. Monday in the same complex

Catcher Adrienne Lange went 3 for 3 with a triple, two runs scored, two runs driven in and two stolen bases for Caledonia, which also scored twice in the first inning and twice in the fourth.

Junior Avery Augedahl pitched a three-hitter and allowed just one unearned run on three hits and one walk. She struck out 10 batters.

Third baseman Paizley Lange, center fielder Ashlyn Reinhart, right fielder Lily Augedahl and second baseman Vivian Kittleson all had two hits for the Warriors.

Reinhart doubled and drove in two runs, Kittleson tripled and scored twice. Paizley Lange drove in two runs.

Avery Augedahl also doubled and scored for Caledonia.

Aquinas 14, Viroqua 3 (5)

LA CROSSE — The Blugolds (8-15) scored 11 runs in the first inning on the way to a Division 3 quarterfinal win over the Blackhawks.

Aquinas advances to play at top-seeded Adams-Friendship in a Tuesday semifinal.

The Blugolds had 15 hits , and center fielder Brynn Grabowski and outfielder Addison Walker had three apiece. Grabowski doubled and drove in three runs, and Walker doubled and drove in two.

Shortstop Addy Watson hit a home run and drove in three runs while going 2 for 2, and third baseman Lauren VonRuden drove in two runs.
