Tuesday baseball: Onalaska, Logan, Aquinas, Melrose-Mindoro pick up victories

ONALASKA — The Onalaska High School baseball team didn’t have the best start to its nonconference game against G-E-T on Tuesday, but it found a way to rebound.

The Hilltoppers allowed the Red Hawks three unearned runs in the top of the first inning but rallied to score the next eight in an 8-3 victory.

Shortstop Tyler Kowal was 4 for 4 with a double, two runs scored and one driven in for Onalaska (10-9, which won the for the second time in three games.

Outfielder Carson Campbell had two of Onalaska’s five stolen bases and scored two runs.

The Hilltoppers used three pitchers, but senior Ian Kowal pitched six innings and finished with eight strikeouts and no earned runs allowed on three hits and no walks.

Logan 14, West Salem 0 (5)

LA CROSSE — The Rangers (14-9) scored six runs in the second inning to pull away from the Panthers (7-11).

First baseman Jesse Lycke hit a solo home run and went 2 for 3 for Logan, which had 12 hits. Second baseman Ryan Thurman was 3 for 3 to lead the way.

Catcher Jackson Bosch was 2 for 3 with a double and drove in three runs, and third baseman Owen Check doubled and drove in two runs.

Tommy Check and Sam Diehl combined on a four-hitter, and Check struck out three and allowed three of those hits over four innings.

Left fielder Landon Rieber doubled for West Salem.

Aquinas 7, Black River Falls 5

BLACK RIVER FALLS — The Blugolds (13-5) had a three-run third inning and a three-run fifth in their win over the Tigers.

Infielder Waylon Hargrove was 2 for 3 with a double and drovein two runs, and catcher Ryan Johnson was 2 for 4.

Pitcher Landon Teachout doubled and drove in two runs for Aquinas, which won for the fourth time in five games.

Melrose-Mindoro 3, Osseo-Fairchild 1

MELROSE — The Mustangs (13-4) scored twice in the bottom of the sixth inning for some breathing room.

Left fielder Wade Adams and first baseman Lane Rhyme each hit a run-scoring single in the sixth for Melrose-Mindoro. Colton Koss struck out 11 and walked five through six no-hit innings.

Rhyme was 2 for 3 with a double, and Koss drove in the team’s first run.

Bangor 6, Luther 0

ONALASKA — The Knights (3-15) gave up three runs in the top of the first inning and were only able to get four hits against the Cardinals.

First baseman Max Lorenz went 2 for 3, and Calvin Rick and Ashton Kendall singled for Luther.
