MSHSL baseball: Caledonia wins Section 1AA opener via shutout

CALEDONIA — The Caledonia High School baseball team started its postseason with a shutout on Wednesday.

The fourth-seeded Warriors scored in each of the first four innings to set the stage for a 7-0 victory over visiting Chatfield in their MSHSL Section 1AA opener.

Will Allen and Landon O’Heron combined on the shutout for Caledonia (15-8), which next hosts fifth-seeded Pine Island at 1 p.m. Saturday.

Allen pitched 5 1/3 innings and finished with eight strikeouts, four walks and five hits allowed. O’Heron pitched 1 2/3 with four strikeouts, no walks and one hit allowed.

Third baseman Jacob Klug was 2 for 3 with a double, a sacrifice fly, two runs scored and two runs driven in. He also reached on an error and scored on an error in the first inning.

Shortstop Tyson Ginther singled and drove in two runs, and first baseman Jack Schmitz was 3 for 3 with a double and two stolen bases.

Allen also went 2 for 3, stole a base and drove in a run for the Warriors.
