TOMAH — Joe Meeter had another big game, and it helped the Holmen High School baseball team take over first place in the MVC on Thursday.
The Vikings had 12 hits and scored at least once in five of the seven innings in a 14-10 victory over Tomah that gave them a half-game lead on second-place Aquinas.
Meeter, a right fielder and North Dakota State commit, went 3 for 4 with a double and two stolen bases and added two runs driven in as Holmen (9-5, 5-1) won its fifth game in a row. Meeter also scored three runs.
Shortstop Nolan Mashak and center fielder Mason Flury were both 2 for 4 with two runs driven in for the Vikings. Mashak also doubled, and Flury swiped a base.
Third baseman Landen Kelly was 2 for 3 with two runs scored, Nolan Lomas scored three times and stole a base, and Maddax Connely hit a solo home run for Holmen.
Central 11, Aquinas 4
LA CROSSE — The RiverHawks (9-5, 5-3 MVC) knocked the Blugolds (8-3, 5-2) out of first place at Copeland Park.
Central scored four runs in the fourth inning and three in the sixth to earn a season split with Aquinas.
The RiverHawks had six players with one hit apiece. Center fielder Jordan Candahl and first baseman Sam Biegen both doubled, and pitcher/right fielder Kenden Bishofsky tripled.
Shortstop/pitcher Aiden Schulze drove in three runs, and Bishofsky and second baseman Jake Larson two each.
Catcher Ryan Johnson and designated hitter Ethan Kamrowski each drove in two runs for the Blugolds.
Onalaska 10, Sparta 2
SPARTA — First baseman/pitcher Ian Kowal went 2 for 3 with a triple and drove in five runs for the Hilltoppers (8-5, 5-3 MVC) in a win over the Spartans.
Kowal brought home one run with a bunt on the second inning, three more with a triple in the sixth and another in a seventh-inning single for Onalaska in its third straight victory.
Designated hitter Carson Zinnecker singled and drove in three runs, and Bradyn DeLong and Cooper Rudie each stole two bases in the victory.
Jagger Banasik struck out four, walked four and allowed three hits over five innings for the Hilltoppers.
Viroqua 11, Luther 5
VIROQUA — The Knights (3-10, 3-5 Coulee) led twice early, but the Blackhawks used a five-run fourth inning to pull away from a 4-4 tie.
Pitcher/shortstop Calvin Rick went 2 for 4 and scored twice, center fielder Ashton Kendall scored twice, and catcher Michael Johnson doubled for Luther, which had five hits.
Zumbrota-Mazeppa 12, Caledonia 2 (6)
ZUMBROTA — The Warriors (9-6) were stopped early after allowing six runs on the bottom of the sixth inning.
Caledonia had just two hits, and one was a double by Noah Augedahl, who was credited with the team’s only run driven in. Center fielder/first baseman Jack Schmitz singled and stole two bases.
G-E-T 3, West Salem 0
WEST SALEM — The Panthers (5-8, 5-5 Coulee) failed to get a hit against Wyatt Oines, who struck out two and walked one.
Kayden Dettmering pitched 5 1/3 innings for West Salem and allowed three earned runs on six hits and one walk while striking out two.
