LA CROSSE — The Central High School boys tennis team scored 25.5 points to push past Logan and complete a second-place finish in the MVC season on Wednesday.
The RiverHawks, with 52.5 points, won two flights and were second in two others to make up a five-point deficit after finishing the dual season in third place.
Tomah won the championship with 66 points, while Logan finished third with 51.5, Onalaska fourth with 37, Aquinas fifth with 35 and Holmen sixth with 18.5.
The champion is determined through a combination of the dual season and conference tournament, which was played Wednesday at the Green Island Tennis Center.
Central received flight championships from senior Drake Wonderling at No. 1 singles and junior Ryan Tschumper at No. 3 singles.
Wonderling beat Logan sophomore Mitchell Jarrett 6-2, 6-0 in the semifinals and Aquinas senior Tegan Schott 6-3, 6-4 in the finals.
Tschumper scored a 6-0, 6-3 semifinal win over Holmen junior Miles Vang and a 7-5, 1-6, 10-8 victory over Logan junior Parker Stevermer in the championship match.
The Timberwolves won the other four flights.
Central received second-place finishes from sophomore Nate Grilley and senior Santi Toribio at No. 3 doubles and freshman Ian Romano at No. 2 singles.
ogan had three entrants in the finals, and all three placed second.
Stevermer, freshman Luke Kelly at No. 4 singles and seniors Cael Novak and Sam Bleidorn at No. 1 doubles all provided second-place points for the Rangers.
Schott’s second-place finish led the Blugolds, and Onalaska had its No. 2 doubles team of senior Sohan Patel and sophomore Bradley Baker finish second.
