Monday track and field: West Salem boys, girls win team championships in Viroqua

VIROQUA — The West Salem High School boys and girls track and field teams won championships at the Blackhawk Invitational hosted by Viroqua on Monday.

The Panthers scored 131 points in girls events, 111 in boys events and were victorious by comfortable margins.

Junior Anna Knudson and sophomore Tiegen Duffy won events for the girls, and their teammates added three second-place finishes.

Knudson was victorious in the 3,200-meter run (12 minutes, 47.45 seconds), and Duffy won the 300 hurdles (49.55).

Senior Madison Kaiser was second in the discus (104 feet, 10 inches) and shot put (35-6), and the team’s 800 relay crossed the line second at 1:46.98.

The boys claimed first-place points in four events and second-place points in two.

Sophomore Evan Berra won the 1,600 (4:32.94), and West Salem picked up wins in the 400 (43.21), 800 (1:31.22) and 1,600 (3:34.47) relays.

Junior Michael Torrance was second in the 400 (51.91), and junior Isaiah Laack second in the discus (139-8).
