Tuesday track and field: Holmen girls, West Salem boys win team titles at MVC/Coulee

ONALASKA — The Holmen High School girls and West Salem boys track and field teams won championships at the MVC/Coulee Invitational on Tuesday.

Holmen’s girls racked up 156 points to beat second-place West Salem (109) and third-place Onalaska (82.3). Central was seventh (44), Aquinas eighth (36) and Luther 11th (24.5).

West Salem’s boys won with 142.5 points. Holmen was second (137), Onalaska third (65), Luther fifth (53.75), Central ninth (38) and Aquinas 12th (8).

West Salem senior Olivia Maki and sophomore Evan Berra were the only double winners when it came to individual events.

Maki won the girls 100-meter hurdles (16.57 seconds) and 300 hurdles (49.07), and Berra won the boys 1,600 (4:36.52) and 3,200 (10:00.84).

Holmen’s girls won the 400 relay (49.12), 800 relay (1:43.15) and 3,200 relay (9:56.58) and received individual wins from senior Sabrina Lechnir (800, 2:20.32), sophomore Ruby Kinsman (11:58.35) and senior Brenna Schmidt (shot put, 35 feet, 9.5 inches).

Onalaska sophomore Elin Gilles won the 200 (26.03), while senior teammates Isabella Malecek won the high jump (5-6) and Olivia Peterson the pole vault (9-6).

Aquinas junior Eliot McKnight also picked up a victory in the discus (123-1).

West Salem’s boys won the team title despite winning just one event. Sophomore Tavaryies Henderson recorded the top triple jump of the meet at 39-2.

Holmen’s boys received individual wins from senior Josiah Kulmaczewski in the 800 (2:01.52), junior Jakai Ayed in the 110 hurdles (14.45) and sophomore Tay Parcher in the high jump (6-0).

The Vikings also won the 400 relay (43.93) and 800 relay (1:31.73).

Junior Brendan Chenault won the long jump (21-1.5) and sophomore Kohen Rupp the pole vault (11-6) for Onalaska, and junior Nathan Dobberstein won the 300 hurdles (41.22) for Luther.
