LA CROSSE — The Logan High School baseball team brought an end to Central’s unbeaten season with a 2-1 victory over the RiverHawks at Copeland Park on Saturday.
The Rangers (4-4 overall, 2-4 MVC) made two third-inning runs stand up behind the pitching of Owen Check and Hank Bosch. Check struck put 10, walked two and allowed three hits over five innings and Bosch gave up one hit over two innings.
Right fielder Jackson Bosch singled home center fielder Sam Diehl, and a right fielder Preston Elston groundout scored catcher Tommy Check for the 2-0 lead.
Tommy Check was 2 for 2 with a stolen base.
First baseman Sam Biegen was 2 for 3 for Central (7-1, 3-1). Shortstop/pitcher Aiden Schulze double and drove in Landon Smith for the RiverHawks’ run in the bottom of the sixth.
Central 6, Prairie du Chien 0
LA CROSSE — The RiverHawks began their day with a shutout of the Blackhawks at Copeland Park.
Drew Ehler-Blum pitched a two-hit shutout with five strikeouts and no walks. Central’s three-run first inning was plenty of help for him.
Schulzewas 2 for 3 with a double and scored three runs for the RiverHawks. Second baseman Jake Larson doubled and drove in three runs, and third baseman Liam Branson went 2 for 3 with a double and an RBI.
Aquinas 8, Winona Cotter 7
LA CROSSE — The Blugolds (5-2) scored four runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to beat the visiting Ramblers.
Aquinas trailed 7-4 before scoring the four runs with the help of just two hits in the sixth. Right fielder/pitcher Henry Holinka singled home the tying and go-ahead runs with two outs.
First baseman/third baseman Waylon Hargrove was 2 for 2 with two runs driven in and three scored, and Landon Teachout was 2 for 3 with a double and two driven in.
Holinka’s hit in the sixth was his second of the game, and second baseman Parks Tobin had two sacrifice flies.
Caledonia 2, Pine Island 1
Caledonia 7, Rochester Lourdes 4
PINE ISLAND — The Warriors (7-3) swept a pair of game in a triangular to bring to an end their three-game losing streak.
Tyson Ginther struck out six, walked one and allowed just three hits in the win over Pine Island. He also hit a sacrifice fly in the third inning.
Shortstop Will Allen also doubled and went 2 for 3 in a game Caledonia won by scoring on a passed ball in the seventh inning.
The Warriors scored twice in the sixth and twice in the seventh to beat Lourdes, which lost the lead on a sacrifice fly by Braiden DeFlorian and a passed ball in the sixth.
Third baseman Jacob Klug doubled and drove in two of his three runs in the seventh to pad the lead.
Ginther and Allen were both 2 for 4, and DeFlorian finished with two runs driven in.
Stevens Point 9, Holmen 8
Eau Claire Memorial 14, Holmen 10
STEVENS POINT — The Vikings (4-5) allowed five runs in the fifth and sixth innings of the loss to Stevens Point and never led after allowing Memorial to score four times in the top of the first inning.
Holmen had 26 hits in the two games. Shortstop Nolan Mashak was a combined 6 for 9, and first baseman/right fielder Joe Meeter hit a home run in each game.
The Vikings scored three times in the third inning and three more in the fourth for an 8-4 lead over Stevens Point. Mashak was 4 for 4 with three stolen bases, pitcher Chris Holmes 2 for 4 with a home run and Meeter drove in two runs.
Meeter was 3 for 4 with a double, the home run and four runs scored against Eau Claire Memorial. Designated hitter Jason Bramwell was for 3 with three runs driven in, Mashak 2 for 5, Holmes 2 for 4 with a double and third baseman Landen Kelly 2 for 4.
