LA CROSSE — The Holmen High School boys and girls track and field teams won championships in the Mauston Golden Eagle Invitational held at the Hetzel Fieldhouse on the campus of UW-La Crosse on Saturday.
The Vikings finished with 155 points in the girls competition and 74.5 in the boys. Onalaska was second in both with its boys scoring 71 and its girls 59.
Holmen senior and UW-La Crosse commit Lydia Lazarescu picked up winning points in three events with victories in the 55-meter dash (7.24 seconds) and roles with the girls 1,600 relay (4:24.8) and mixed 800 relay (1:40.87). Lazarescu held off second-place senior teammate Abry Bloyer (7.33) and third-place Onalaska senior Makena McGarry (7.54) in a loaded 55.
Bloyer was also on the mixed 800 relay team, won the 200 (26.72) and added a third-place finish in the long jump (15 feet, 7.5 inches).
Holmen senior Sabrina Lechnir ran with the winning 1,600 relay and won the 1,600 (5:23.07) while Holmen senior Brenna Schmidt won the shot put (40-8.5).
Ruby Kinsman also won one event and ran with a winning relay for the Vikings. Kinsman won the 800 (2:29.14) and ran with the 3,200 relay (10:49.78). Bela Waters also won the triple jump for the Vikings with a 32-9.
Onalaska senior Isabella Malecek won the high jump (5-4) and was second in the 400 (1:02.09), while Sanjana Musafir won the 3,200 (12:34.17) for Aquinas and Olivia Peterson the pole vault (10-6) for Onalaska.
Onalaska junior Brendan Chenault won the 400 (52.37) and triple jump (46-4) to lead local boys performances.
Teammate Gabe Mauss won the long jump (21-5) and ran one leg for the winning a,600 relay (3:45.16).
West Salem recorded a 1-2 finish in the 1,600 with Andrew Lorenz winning in 4:45.41) and teammate Evan Berra second (4:47.78).
Holmen’s Jakai Ayed won the 55 hurdles (7.71), Logan’s Gabe Passe the 3,200 (10:30.17) and Onalaska’s Wylder Burch the high jump (6-5).
Cashton Invitational
LA CROSSE — The Melrose-Mindoro girls were eighth out of 10 teams with 29 points, and the boys were 15th out of 25 teams with 19 points in a meet held at UW-La Crosse.
Junior Bristol Coats had the biggest day for the Mustangs by placing second in the long jump (15-11), sixth in the 55 (7.86) and seventh in the 200 (29.06). Junior Sheila Johnson matched Coats’ top finish with a runner-up performance in the high jump (5-0).
Freshman Payten Craig was sixth in the pole vault (7-0) and eighth in the 200 (29.07), and sophomore Alexiah Stanton was eighth in the pole vault (7-0).
The Melrose-Mindoro girls also received seventh-place points from their 3,200 relay (12:51) and eighth-place points from their 800 relay (2:07.47).
Sophomore Isaak Christianson led the Melrose-Mindoro boys with a third-place performance in the pole vault (10-6) and placed seventh in the 200 (25.47). Sophomore teammate Will Radcliffe was fifth in the pole vault (9-6), and the Mustangs placed seventh in the 3,200 relay (10:24).
