Coulee Confrence track and field: West Salem’s boys win 6th straight title, girls win second in a row

GALESVILLE — The West Salem High School boys and girls track and field teams swept Coulee Conference championships for the second year in a row on Saturday.

The Panthers won the boys team title for the sixth year in a row, and the girls successfully defended last year’s victory.

West Salem’s boys accumulated 196 points to beat second-place Luther (118) and third-place G-E-T (103).

West Salem’s girls had 192 points to finish ahead of runner-up Viroqua (133) and Westby (125.5). Luther’s girls were fifth with 67 points.

The Panthers won seven boys events and five girls events.

Junior Kaylee Skiles and sophomore Evan Berra each won two events for West Salem.

Skiles was victorious in the girls 100-meter dash (12.47 seconds) and 200 (26.03). Berra won the boys 1,600 (4:23.28) and 3,200 (10:29.36).

Luther junior Nathan Dobberstein was also a double winner with victories in the 300 hurdles (41.6) and high jump (6 feet, 2 inches).

Junior Michael Torrance (800, 2:05.72), senior Cade Donahue (200, 22.43) and senior Henri Schlecht (pole vault, 11-6) also won boys events for West Salem, and Luther senior Ayden Livingston won the long jump (20-9 1/4).

Dobberstein and Livingston were also joined by Aiden Wickus and Landon Franks in an effort that won the 800 relay in 1:32.24.

Luther’s girls received an event win from sophomore Jaeyda Livingston (47.39).

Seniors Olivia Maki (100 hurdles, 15.14), Madison Kaiser (35-9 1/2) and Maia Hutchens (pole vault, 9-6) added wins for West Salem’s girls.

Skiles, Brielle Moore, Kensley Skifton and Emerson Holst teamed up to win the 800 relay (1:47.14), and Taylor Buisman, Isabel Krueger, Elise Flock and Natalia Minard were victorious in the 3,200 relay (10:27.28).
