SUPERIOR — The Holmen High School boys soccer team started the WIAA Division 1 tournament season with a 2-1 regional semifinal victory at third-seeded Superior on Tuesday.
The sixth-seeded Vikings (11-7-2) advance to play at second-seeded Eau Claire Memorial in a regional final scheduled for 1 p.m. Saturday.
Junior Jacob Simmons and sophomore Chale Yang scored goals for Holmen, which emerged from a 1-1 halftime tie.
Simmons scored in the first half with an assist from freshman Andrew Lowman, and Yang scored on a header in the second half with an assist from sophomore Preston McHugh.
This is the fourth straight season the Vikings have opened the postseason with a victory. The Vikings won first-round matches in Division 2 from 2022-2024 before jumping up to Division 1 this fall.
Division 3
Jefferson 1, Logan 1 (Jefferson wins shootout)
LAKE MILLS — The Rangers received their goal from Elliot Jensen in a loss to the Eagles.
Parker Stevermer stopped six shots for Logan, which had 17 free kicks, seven corner kicks and put five shots on goal.
Jefferson won the shootout 3-0.
