LA CROSSE — The Holmen High School girls soccer team celebrated a recognized spot among the state’s top 10 with another shutout victory on Thursday.

The Vikings, who entered the Wisconsin Volleyball Coaches Association Division 2 ranking in the No. 7 spot this week, scored four goals in the first half on the way to a 5-0 MVC victory over Aquinas at Fields for Kids.

Holmen (2-0-1, 1-0-0 MVC) began its conference season after tying fifth-ranked Sauk Prairie and beating eighth-ranked River Falls and controlled possession throughout its win over the Blugolds (3-1-0, 1-1-0). Aquinas had beaten its first three opponents by a combined score of 19-2.

Junior Lydia Sader started things off by converting a penalty kick in the 13th minute, but that followed a big diving save by junior Moira Linse of an Aquinas penalty kick a few minutes prior. Linse has not allowed a goal this season.

Linse’s save gave the Vikings momentum, and Sader turned it into her first goal of the season. She then assisted on a goal by sophomore Ava Rivera for a 2-0 lead just five minutes later.

That goal started Rivera on her way toward a hat trick, which culminated in the 73rd minute when sophomore Saige Ratajski assisted on her final score of the night. She also scored with an assist from senior Jocelyn Williams in the 39th minute to give the Vikings a 4-0 lead just before the half.

Rivera has five goals and Sader one goal and two assists through three games.

Freshman Mallory Kemper scored her first varsity goal unassisted in the 28th minute.

Central 4, Arcadia 0

ARCADIA — The visiting RiverHawks (2-1-0, 1-1-0 MVC) bounced back from a loss to Logan/Luther by shutting out the Raiders.

Central scored twice in the first half and twice in the second half.

Senior Grace Wilkerson scored two goals, senior Ellia Dale another and junior Mae Yang another for the RiverHawks. Wilkerson scored the first on a penalty kick in the 11th minute, and Dale provided the 2-0 halftime lead by converting a pass from Wilkerson four minutes later.

Yang’s goal included an assist from Elin Blackbourn in the 60th minute, and Wilkerson scored unassisted in the 69th.

Cam Woyczik made two saves for Central.

Onalaska 1, West Salem 1

ONALASKA — Senior Isabella Cromheecke scored with an assist from sophomore Sofiya Cromheecke as the Hilltoppers (2-3-1, 1-1-1 MVC) drew with the visiting Panthers (0-1-1, 0-1-0).

Senior Mya Hoff scored the tying goal for West Salem, which received five saves from senior Baylee Faucett in goal.
