Thursday baseball report: Caledonia runs win streak to four with win over R-P

CALEDONIA — The Caledonia High School baseball team scored seven times in the bottom of the sixth inning to finish off Rushford-Peterson 13-3 in a Three Rivers Conference game on Thursday.

The Warriors (14-5) won their fourth game in a row and for the eighth time in nine games by holding the Trojans scoreless until the fifth inning.

Twelve of Caledonia’s 14 hits were singles, and they received either a hit or an RBI from every spot in the batting order.

Pitcher Tyson Ginther was 3 for 4 and drove in four runs while limiting Rushford-Peterson to three earned runs over six innings. He struck out eight batters.

Designated hitter Ben Stemper was also 3 for 4 and had one of his team’s two doubles. Shortstop Reid Klug, who was 2 for 4 with two RBIs, had the other. Second baseman Tanner Ginther also drove in two runs for the Warriors, who recorded six stolen bases.

Arcadia 15, Blair-Taylor 14

ARCADIA — Catcher Ben Lightfoot singled home Carter Wegman with the go-ahead run in the bottom of the sixth inning, and the Raiders (9-11) finished the win on a strikeout with the bases loaded in the top of the seventh.

Left fielder Austin Fernholz was 3 for 4 with two RBIs and first baseman Login Scow 3 for 4 with a double to lead a 14-hit offense. Lightfoot and Wegman also drove in two runs apiece.

Third baseman Max Blashko was 2 for 2 with a double, and pitcher/center fielder Max Sobbotta tripled and drove in a run for Arcadia, which has won two if its past three games.

Sparta 12, Central 6

SPARTA — The RiverHawks (3-14, 1-7) couldn’t pull off the sweep of the Spartans after beating them 6-1 on Monday.

After taking a three-run lead in the top of the second inning, Central allowed eight runs in the bottom of the inning and never caught up. The Spartans had eight hits during the eight-run inning.

Designated hitter Aiden Schulze went 3 for 4 with a double and two RBIs, and center fielder Derrick Pangier was 2 for 4 with two RBIs.

G-E-T 18, West Salem 1 (5)

GALESVILLE — The Panthers (7-10, 5-7) couldn’t get anything going against the Red Hawks.
G-E-T scored seven runs in the first inning and 10 in the third on the way to ending the game early.

Designated hitter Luke Baginski, third baseman Terryn Boland, catcher/first baseman Will Schmidt and first baseman Luke Grube all singled for West Salem, and Schmidt drove in Baginski for the run.
