Monday baseball report: First-place Holmen, second-place Aquinas post victories

TOMAH — The Aquinas High School baseball team scored five runs in the top of the second inning and continued on its way to a 10-5 MVC victory over Tomah on Monday.

Outfielder/pitcher Landon Teachout and outfielder/first baseman Waylon Hargrove both went 3 for 4, and Teachout drove in two runs as the Blugolds, who are ranked second in Division 2 by state coaches, improved to 8-2 overall and 4-1 in the conference.

Teachout singled home a run in the fifth and doubled home another in the seventh for Aquinas, which scored three times in the top of the seventh after the Timberwolves drew to within 6-5 after scoring once in the bottom of the fifth.

Catcher Jacob Thornton was also 2 for 4 with two RBIs and right fielder Brayden Young doubled and drove in three runs as Aquinas won its fifth game in a row.

Holmen 6, Logan 1

LA CROSSE — The Vikings (9-2-1, 7-0) remained unbeaten in the MVC and handed the Rangers (6-4, 3-2) their second straight conference loss.

Senior Paul Goryl pitched a two-hitter and struck out seven without walking a batter or allowing an earned run. Hank Bosch doubled and Preston Elston singled for Logan.

Holmen scored three runs in the third inning, once in the sixth and twice in the seventh.

Right fielder Joe Meeter was 3 for 4, drove in three runs and scored twice for the Vikings, who also received two hits apiece from first baseman Noah Oswald and designated hitter Abe Henderson.

Second baseman Nolan Mashak scored three runs, and Oswald drove in three.
