Wednesday baseball: Blugolds use big offense and Hargrove one-hitter to beat Altoona

LA CROSSE — The Aquinas High School baseball team closed out its regular season with a 22-0 five-inning nonconference victory over Altoona at Lee Gilbert Field on Wednesday.

The Blugolds (16-5) scored five runs in the first inning, nine in the third and eight in the fourth to end their game against the Railroaders early and will take a four-game winning streak into the WIAA Division 2 regional bracket.

Senior Waylon Hargrove pitched a one-hit shutout and finished with four strikeouts and two walks.

Six of the 12 Aquinas hits went for extra bases, and first baseman Aedan David went 4 for 4 with two doubles, four runs scored and drove in five runs. Center fielder/catcher Ryan Johnson was 2 for 4 with two doubles and drove in two runs.

Third baseman Marcus Klar tripled, drove in three runs and scored four times, while Hargrove singled, drove in three runs and scored three runs and catcher Ethan Kamrowski doubled and drove in three runs.

The Blugolds are seeded second in their section of the postseason bracket and will host either seventh-seeded Adams-Friendship or 10th-seeded Arcadia in a regional semifinal on June 2.
