Tuesday baseball: David, Klar combine on no-hitter for Aquinas; Onalaska, West Salem pick up wins

LA CROSSE — Senior Aedan David needed help for one out on Tuesday, and senior teammate Marcus Klar was there for him.
David got the first two outs of the sixth inning, and Klar got the last one to complete a no-hitter for the Aquinas High School baseball team in a 2-0 nonconference victory at Lee Gilbert Field.

David struck out eight and walked three, and Klar got a groundout to end the game for the Blugolds (15-5), who won their third game in a row.

Aquinas scored both of its runs in the first inning, which started with a Jonny Deets walk and stolen base. David’s two-out double to left field scored Deets, and catcher Ryan Johnson followed with a single to left field that scored David.

Center fielder/first baseman Jesse Jothen doubled to left field, and that scored Luke Grube to give West Salem the lead in the fifth, and an error allowed outfielder Nate Stefferud to score an insurance run in the sixth.

Altoona managed just five hits against four West Salem pitchers who combined for seven strikeouts.

Jothen was 2 for 3 with two doubles and drove in three runs, while first baseman/pitcher Terryn Boland was 2 for 4 with two runs scored and one driven in.
