Tuesday track and field report: Logan, Holmen record team sweeps around the area

LA CROSSE — The Logan High School boys and girls track and field teams swept championships at the Logan Invitational on Tuesday.

The Rangers scored 227 points in the boys competition and 192 in the girls events to easily win six-team competitions at Swanson Field.

Logan’s boys posted victories in four events, with senior Jacob Hackbarth running to a time of 41.76 seconds and win in the 300-meter hurdles. Juniors Aidan Kuelz and Wes McGough added first-place performances in the triple jump (40 feet) and shot put (48-0), respectively, for the Rangers.

Logan’s boys also won the 400 relay when Braylen McKee, Jackson Schultz, Huechee Thao and Marques Simmons-Jackson were timed at 45.72.

Arcadia senior Ted Teske was the only local double-winner with his victories in the 400 (52.11) and high jump (6-3). Teammates Andy Monroy and Jerson Sanchez added victories in the 3,200 (10:50.58) and 110 hurdles (16.02), respectively, and the Raiders’ 3,200 relay team of Yahir Gonzalez, Alec Conrad, Matthew Badillo and Camren Schultz won in 9:06.47.

Caledonia/Houston also received a couple of sprint wins from seniors Eli Staggemeyer and Fischer Wait. Staggemeyer won the 100 in 11.95, and Wait was victorious in the 200 in 22.66.junior Emmerson Harcey the triple jump (31.2.75).

Caledonia junior Nicole Banse was the individual star of the girls meet with a win in the long jump (16-3) and two anchor performances for winning relay teams. Chloe Lange, Sienna Augedahl, Kamrin Thies and Banse won the 400 relay (52.33), and Lange, Thies, Augedahl and Banse won the 800 relay (1:49.99).
Arcadia junior Jaylie Dahl won the 100 (13.23) and 400 (1:02.36).

Logan received first-place finishes in four events on the way to the team victory, and its 1,600 relay team of Marlee Stevermer, Lilly Dettwiler, Kylie Devine and Ivy Miles won in a time of 4:37.07.

Sophomore Dazlyn Williams won the 200 (26.74) while running in the third of four heats. Efrance Wilson won the pole vault (7-9) and junior Emmerson Harcey the triple jump (31-2.75).

Knight Invitational

ONALASKA — West Salem’s boys scored 135 points and Luther’s girls 115 to win team championships. The Knights also beat second-placed West Salem by just one point in the girls competition.

Luther senior Lauren Wickus was the dominant local individual with four victories. She crossed the finish line first in the 200 (27.06) and 400 1:02.48), and no one could sail higher than Wickus in the high jump (5-1) or farther than Wickus in the long jump (17-3).

The Knights also received a win from junior Jacee Erickson in the girls pole vault (8-6).

Aquinas freshman Alivia Ritter (shot put, 29-8), Aquinas sophomore Eliot McKnight (discus, 115-0), Melrose-Mindoro sophomore Bristol Coats (100, 13.13) and the West Salem 800 relay of Dillon Riste, Jayda Miller, Makenna Hirsch and Maia Hutchens (1:54.45) also won events.

Luther senior Jack Schmeling was the standout individual boy with his victories in the high jump (6-5), long jump (20-11) and shot put (49-0.5).

West Salem’s boys received victories from junior Cade Donahue (400, 52.32), sophomore Jack Torrence (110 hurdles, 16.39), senior Luke Jambois (300 hurdles, 43.29) and the 3,200 relay team of Owen McKinney, Ethan Quackenbush, Graham Sjoquist and Andrew Larson (9:07.38).

Senior Declan Gregg (800, 2:01.28), senior Thomas Gorman III (3,200, 9:56.1) and senior David Onyeabor (triple jump, 42-3) all won for Aquinas, and Melrose-Mindoro senior Isaiah Erickson posted the victory in the discus (133-1).

Mauston Early Bird Invitational

MAUSTON — Holmen’s girls scored 124.5 points and its boys 92 for team victories in four-team competitions.

Holmen’s girls were led by juniors Lydia Lazarescu, Alivia Wickstrom, Abry Bloyer and freshman Maria Magozzi.

Lazarescu on the 200 (25.77) and helped the 400 relay team win with a time of 50.2. Wickstrom won the 100 hurdles (16.64) and ran with the 400 relay, and Bloyer won the 100 (12.82) and ran with the 400 relay. Molly McBride also ran with the winning 400 relay.

Magozzi won the 3,200 (13:34.18) and ran with the winning 800 distance medley relay (14:56.23). Isabel Archer, Isabelle Korthuls and Morgan Haas also ran with that relay.

Juniors Sabrina Lechnir (1,600, 5:18.84) and Brenna Schmidt (shot put, 37-4.25), senior Alexa Szak (high jump, 5-0) and freshman Kendall Kozlowski (pole vault, 9-6) also won for Holmen.

Holmen’s boys were led by senior Jaren Nygren, junior Ryland Eickhoff and sophomore Jakai Ayed.
Nygren won the high jump (5-10) and ran with the winning 400 relay (44.37). Eickhoff won the 100 (11.27) and ran with the 400 relay, which also included John Faherty and Peyton Peterson.

Sophomore Matthew Hoff (800, 1:59.96), junior Spencer Lowman (1,600, 4:56.7) and senior Dane Mueller (pole vault, 12-0) also won events for the Vikings.

Prairie Relays

PRAIRIE DU CHIEN — Central’s boys and girls placed third in 13-team fields with 71.5 and 69 points, respectively.

Senior Aliyah Schieldt won the discus with an attempt of 120-2 to give the RiverHawks an event victory.
Senior Bode Nesler and sophomore Anthony Jones gave the RiverHawks runner-up finishes in the boys 3,200 and triple jump, respectively, in a time of 10:42.21) and distance of 41-2.5. Sophomore McKenna Michaels added second-place points for the girls in the triple jump (34-0.25).

Central had third-place finishers in girls events by senior Sierra Fried in the 100 (13.26) and freshman Maren Heckman in the 400 (1:05.16).

Central’s boys received points on third-place finishes from junior Cade Larson (100, 11.26), junior Lyndon Torkelson (3.200, 10:55.6) and the 3,200 relay team of Nesler, Torkelson, Griffin Rudie and Sean Erickson (8:38.88). Senior Travon Thompson (shot put, 47-8) and junior Milo Mach (pole vault, 11-0) were also third.

Onalaska sophomore Carson Fink added a third-place finish in the 800 (2:09.64).
