LA CROSSE — The Holmen High School girls soccer team put the finishing touch on an unbeaten MVC season with a 1-0 victory over Aquinas at Fields for Kids on Tuesday.
The Vikings (14-3-1 overall, 10-0-0 MVC), who are ranked sixth in Division 2 by state coaches, beat the Blugolds (12-3-0, 7-3-0) — ranked eighth in Division 4 — by a 1-0 score to complete the regular season.
Holmen recorded its eighth straight win, its fifth consecutive shutout and its 13th shutout of the season.
Senior Jocelyn Williams-Johnson scored her second goal with the help of sophomore Ava Rivera’s fifth assist late in the first half. Junior Moira Linse had four saves and anchored a defense that allowed nine goals all season.
The Vikings were awarded a No. 1 seed for the upcoming WIAA Division 2 tournament and will host eighth-seeded Menomonie at G-E-T in a 7 p.m. kickoff on June 2. Holmen will play any postseason game it hosts at G-E-T.
Aquinas has a No. 1 seed in Division 4 and won’t play until June 6, when it hosts either fifth-seeded Richland Center of fourth-seeded Wisconsin Heights/Barneveld in a regional final.
Central 3, Tomah 1
LA CROSSE — The RiverHawks (8-4-2, 4-4-2 MVC) evened their conference record by scoring twice in the second half to break a 1-1 halftime tie at Fields for Kids.
Senior Grace Wilkerson scored a goal in the first half and assisted on both in the second for Central, which took a quick lead when Wilkerson scored with an assist from Pa Zong Yang in the third minute.
Chloe Ackerman snapped the tie by converting a pass from Wilkerson in the 45th minute before Wilkerson found Mae Yang for the final goal in the 66th minute.
Cam Woyczik had four saves for the RiverHawks, who are seeded second in the upcoming Division 2 regional bracket and host seventh-seeded Baraboo at 7 p.m. on June 2.
Logan/Luther 3, Sparta 1
LA CROSSE — The Rangers (8-7-2, 4-5-1 MVC) scored once in the first half and twice in the second half to beat the Spartans at Swanson Field.
Senior Emma Kolb scored all three goals for Logan/Luther and pushed her season total to 21.
She scored unassisted in the 16th minute and broke a 1-1 tie by converting a pass from Riley Horn in the 55th minute.
Kolb struck against just two minutes later and was set up by teammate Mackenzie Torgerud.
The Rangers are seeded fifth for the upcoming Division 2 bracket and begin their regional at fourth-seeded Tomah on June 2. That game kicks off at 4 p.m.
