WEST SALEM — The West Salem High School softball team will take a two-game winning streak into the WIAA Division 2 playoffs after concluding the regular season with a 5-1 victory over Melrose-Mindoro on Thursday.
The Panthers (19-3) never trailed against the Mustangs (15-5), and senior pitcher/shortstop Josie Brudos doubled and hit her 12th home run while going 3 for 3 with a stolen base from the top spot in the batting order.
Parker Powell was also 2 for 3 for West Salem, which is seeded third and begins its postseason at home against Ellsworth on Tuesday.
Left fielder Lauralee Stanton was 2 for 4 with a double and first baseman/second baseman Ellie Sawyer 2 for 3 for the Mustangs.
Melrose-Mindoro is seeded third and hosts Cashton in a Division 4 regional semifinal on Tuesday.
Arcadia 8, Central 1
ARCADIA — The RiverHawks (5-19) scored once in the third inning to avoid a shutout against the Raiders.
First baseman Norah Holkup was 2 for 3, and shortstop Ellie Gillitzer doubled and drove in a run for Central. The RiverHawks are seeded 14th in Division 1 and open the postseason at fifth-seeded Holmen on Tuesday.
