TOMAH — The Holmen High School softball team split a pair of games at the Tomah Quadrangular on Saturday, picking up a win over Monona Grove and a loss to Verona.
The Vikings (14-8) couldn’t get out from under Verona’s eight-run second inning in a 10-8 loss to the Wildcats. Holmen scored the final eight runs, but made six errors to lead to the early deficit.
The Vikings had runners at second and third base when the final out of the seventh inning was made.
Left fielder Sydney Cichosz hit a home run and drove in three runs for Holmen, which also received a 3-for-4 performance from catcher Avalee Euler, who doubled and drove in two runs.
Second baseman Makenzie Nunemacher was 2 for 4, and the Wildcats scored eight unearned runs.
Abby Hoffman held the Silver Eagles to five hit in an 8-1 victory.
Shortstop Macy Kline was 3 for 4, scored twice, drove in a run and stole a base, and first baseman Kaylee Mosser was 3 for 4 with an RBI and run scored.
Right fielder Harper Tengblad also scored two runs for Holmen.
