LA CROSSE — A miscue led to the first loss of the season for the Holmen High School girls soccer team on Friday.
An own goal allowed DeForest to escape the UW-La Crosse Soccer Invitational with a 1-0 nonconference victory in one of six games played on campus.
The Vikings (3-1-1), who are ranked fifth in Division 2 by state coaches, continue their season with a game against Madison Edgewood (2-1-1) — last year’s WIAA Division 3 state runner-up — at UW-L on Saturday. That game is scheduled to kick off at 5:15 p.m.

LA CROSSE — The Hilltoppers (4-4-1) allowed three goals in the first half and three more in the second to the Rockets (4-1-1).
Sophomore Avery Cowley made 14 saves for Onalaska, which plays DeForest at 8:30 a.m. Saturday at UW-La Crosse.

LA CROSSE — The Rangers had four shots to the Railroaders’ two and eight corner kicks but couldn’t find the back of the net at UW-L.
