RIVER FALLS — Holmen High School senior Lydia Lazarescu won two sprints to lead the girls track and field team to a team championship in the Midwest Indoor Championships at UW-River Falls on Saturday.
The Vikings recorded victories in four girls events on the way to 155.5 points, which placed them comfortably ahead of second-place Pulaski (74) and third-place Irondale, Mich. (59.5).
Holmen’s boys were fifth with 58.5 points. Stillwater (Minn.) won with 99.5.
Lazarescu, a senior, won the 60-meter dash (7.59 seconds) and the 200 (25.26) for Holmen, which also received victories from senior Alivia Wickstrom in the 60 hurdles (9.42) and senior Brenna Schmidt in the shot put (39 feet, 8 inches). Lazarescu’s’s 200 time was a meet and facility record.
Holmen’s girls also won the 800 relay in a meet- and facility-record time of 1:45.86.
Junior Jakai Ayed also won the 60 hurdles (8.37) for the Holmen boys team.
Holmen’s girls also received second-place finishes from Sabrina Lechnir in the 3,200 (11:23.64) and Aubrey Hauser in the triple jump (32-9 1/2). Hauser also placed fourth in the long jump (14-11 1/2).
Ruby Kinsman added third place in the 800 (2:27.44) and fourth in the 1,600 (5:34.52), and Abry Bloyer (60, 7.83), Jacob Simmons (400, 52.1), Kendall Kozlowski (pole vault, 9-9) and Bela Waters (triple jump, 32-4 1/4) all finished third.
Holmen’s boys 800 relay placed second (1:36.12), while Holmen’s girls 1,600 relay was third (4:22.25) and 3,200 relay was fourth (10:30.69).
Ryland Eickhoff as fourth in the 200 (23.38) and fifth in the 60 (7.15), and Claire Wagoner was fourth in the 3,200 (12:20.87), and Tay Parcher fourth in the high jump (6-0) for Holmen.
Hadley Johnson was fifth in the 60 (8.24) and 200 (27.39), Spencer Lowman was fifth in the 3,200 (10:24.17), Sophia Jacobson was fifth in the high jump (4-10), and Linley Regan was fifth in the long jump (14-10).
Wisconsin State Indoor Championships
WHITEWATER — Melrose-Mindoro junior Sheila Johnson finished third in the girls high jump by clearing 5-0. The winning height was 5-2.
Point Indoor Distance Carnival
STEVENS POINT — Sophomore Evan Berra placed eighth in the boys 3,200 with a time of 9:53.06, and junior teammate Michael Torrance was ninth in the 800 with a 2:04.89.
