Tuesday baseball: Logan, Caledonia, Onalaska pick up victories

LA CROSSE — The Logan High School baseball team won its second nonconference game this week with a 9-6 victory over visiting G-E-T on Tuesday.

The Rangers (7-6) pulled away from a 5-5 tie with three runs in the bottom of the fourth inning.

First baseman Jesse Lycke doubled, hit a home run and went 2 for 2 with two runs driven in. He hit a two-run homer to right field in the big fourth.

Catcher/pitcher Tommy Check was also 2 for 2 and drove in two runs for the Rangers, and teammates Sam Diehl, Charlie Zellner and Ryan Thurman added two hits each.

Owen Check pitched five innings and struck out five, walked four and allowed six hits for Logan.

Caledonia 8, Dover-Eyota 2

CALEDONIA — The Warriors (9-5) scored seven times in the first four innings to win for the second time in three games.

Senior Will Allen was 2 for 4 with a double, drove in a run, scored twice and stole a base. He also struck out six over six three-hit innings with five walks and no earned runs allowed.

Catcher Braiden DeFlorian was 1 for 3 with a single and drove in four runs.

Third baseman Jacob Klug was 2 for 4 with an RBI and run scored, and center fielder Jack Schmitz tripled and drove in a run.

Onalaska 13, West Salem 1 (5)

WEST SALEM — The Hilltoppers (7-6) took care of the Panthers (5-7) in five innings after scoring three runs in the first, four in the second and five in the fourth.

Pitcher Carson Zinnecker allowed one run on two walks and two hits with three strikeouts over three innings and went 2 for 2 with a pair of singles and three runs driven in.

Catcher Hunter Morse was 2 for 3 with a double, third baseman Carter DeLong 2 for 4 with two runs driven in, and right fielder Carson Campbell doubled and drove in two runs.

West Salem only had two singles. Luke Grube had one of them and drove in a run.

Blair-Taylor 4, Melrose-Mindoro 1

BLAIR — The Mustangs (9-2) were held to one sixth-inning run by the Wildcats.

First baseman Brady Blaken hit a sacrifice fly to score Isaiah Kleinsmith with that run during his team’s three-hit offensive performance. Colton Koss also doubled.

Koss and Jacob Thesing combined on the pitching performance. Koss struck out five, walked two and allowed two earned runs on three hits over 3 1/3 innings.

De Soto 8, Luther 1

STODDARD — The Knights (3-9) didn’t score until the seventh inning in a loss to the Pirates (11-2).

Center fielder Ashton Kendall drove in left fielder Michael Johnson with an infield single to break up the shutout.

Kendall and Johnson had two hits apiece for Luther.
