HOLMEN — The Aquinas High School girls golf team earned a spot in a WIAA Division 2 sectional by placing second in a regional meet hosted at Drugan’s Castle Mound on Wednesday.
The Blugolds shot a collective score of 384 and were only beaten by Wisconsin Dells (364) in a meet that determined participants for Monday’s sectional at Meadowbrook Country Club in Racine.
Senior Molly Swift shot a 12-over-par 83 to place second individually and lead Aquinas, which missed on qualifying for the state tournament as a team by three shots last year and by one in both 2022 and 2023. Swift shot par on 10 of the 18 holes, bogeyed five and was one of three Blugolds to finish among the top 10.
Junior teammate Gabriella Stratman tied for seventh place with a 95, and senior teammate Lucy Reyerson tied for eighth with a personal-best 96. Senior Hayden Zehren shot a 110 to round out the Aquinas scoring.
Westby/Viroqua senior Maddi Fletcher was meet medalist with a 4-over 75. She carded birdies at No. 5, No. 7 and No. 15.
Arcadia did not qualify for the sectional and placed fifth with a 420.
The top three teams and top three individuals not on those teams in Division 2 are sectional qualifiers.
Junior Amaya Schlesser led the Raiders with a 102 that was good for 15th place individually, and junior Kalyce Sobotta was 18th with a 105. Juniors Riley Walters (106) and Sacia Boland (107) also scored for Arcadia.
DIVISION 1
Tomah Sectional
TOMAH — Onalaska is a sectional qualifier after a second-place finish at the Hiawatha Golf Club.
The Hilltoppers shot a team score of 352 and finished second to Tomah (332) but will advance to the Stevens Point Sectional hosted at the Wisconsin River Golf Course on Monday.
The top four teams and top four individuals not on those teams in Division 1 advanced to the sectional.
Central/Logan was sixth (408) and Holmen eighth (421).
Onalaska put all four of its scoring golfers in a tie for 10th place or better and was led by senior Rickie Tillotson, who shot a 13-over 85 and with sole possession of third place individually. She birdied No. 3, No. 9 and No. 18 and shot a 41 on the front nine and 44 on the back.
Senior teammate Sydney Kranig tied for fifth place with an 87, and she was followed by sophomore Finley Schams and junior Becka Mohr, who were part of the tie for 10th place at 90.
Central/Logan senior Elena Wagner will join them at the sectional after her 95 put her in a tie for 16th place and gave her one of the four spots reserved for individual qualifiers.
Senior Jaymeson Buxton’s 99, senior Emma Roesler’s 105 and senior Alayna Berra’s 109 also scored for Central/Logan.
Holmen was led by freshman Serene Mather, who shot a 97, placed 19th and missed out on a qualifying spot by two strokes. Senior teammate Teagan Nelson shot a 100 and sophomore teammate Kaylee Banse a 105 for Holmen, which also received rounds of 119 from junior Kaydence Roth and senior Abry Bloyer.
Tomah had the top two individual performers in senior Karma Hasselberger (75) and junior Caydence Scholze (84).
