Thursday postseason softball report: Logan wins Division 2 opener, Caledonia splits 1AA games

LA CROSSE — The Logan High School softball team started the WIAA Division 2 postseason with a win for the fourth year in a row with an 8-4 victory over visiting Sauk Prairie on Thursday.

The Rangers (5-18), who are seeded eighth, scored four runs in the third inning and three in the sixth to take care of the ninth-ranked Eagles and advance to a regional semifinal game at top-seeded Mount Horeb on May 27.

Sophomore catcher Maria Weber hit a two-run home run in the third and drove in another run with a ground ball in the sixth and finished with a team-high three RBIs for Logan, which snapped a six-game losing streak.

Shortstop Emma Bacon was 2 for 4 with a double and scored twice, while second baseman Norah Keller doubled and drove in a run with a sacrifice fly. Bacon, first baseman Kaia DePaolo and Norah Reineking also drove in a run each for the Rangers.

Sophie Schmitz allowed four earned runs on seven hits and no walks and finished with two strikeouts.

Caledonia 9, Rochester Lourdes 1
Randolph 1, Caledonia 0

ROCHESTER — The fourth-seeded Warriors (18-5) split two games at the Rochester Youth Fastpitch Complex and were sent to the MSHSL Section 1AA elimination bracket by top-seeded Randolph.

Caledonia gave up a run in the first inning of that game and finished with four hits. The Warriors put a runner on in the first, fourth, fifth and sixth innings but couldn’t push one across home plate.

Randolph finished the fourth inning with a double play, and third baseman Paizley Lange couldn’t advance after a two-out double in the sixth.

The Warriors had 12 hits against Lourdes and wasn’t challenged after scoring twice in the first inning and twice in the third.

First baseman Elsa Blum was 4 for 4 with four singles, three stolen bases and two runs scored. Avery Augedahl and Lily Wiebke each had two hits, and Augedahl, Wiebke and Lily Augedahl each drove in two runs. Wiebke double, and Avery Augedahl tripled, while Ashlyn Reinhart recorded two stolen bases.

Avery Augedahl pitched both games and struck out 22 batters while walking one and allowing no earned runs on eight hits over 13 innings.
