Monday softball: Rozek lifts Melrose-Mindoro past Aquinas; Heit hits walkoff homer for Onalaska

LA CROSSE — The Melrose-Mindoro High School softball team used three-hit pitching and a solid day at the plate from senior Bella Rozek to extend its winning streak to three games on Monday.

Rozek was 2 for 4 with a home run and drove in two runs while holding Aquinas to three hits in a 7-1 victory at Pammel Creek.

Rozek hit her fourth home run of the season and pushed her season total to 34 runs batted in in a game the Mustangs led the entire way after scoring twice in the top of the first inning.

Rozek also struck out 10 batters, walked six and allowed one earned run in pitching a complete game.

Second baseman Opal Buchanan was 3 for 4 with a solo home run, and left fielder Lauralee Stanton was 2 for 4, scored twice and drove in a run. Center fielder Kelsey Young also doubled for Melrose-Mindoro.
First baseman Ava Scholze singled, walked twice and drove in a run for the Blugolds (6-11).

Onalaska 3, New Richmond 1

ONALASKA — The Hilltoppers (12-8) beat the Tigers when sophomore center fielder MJ Heit hit a two-=run home run with two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning at Jaycee Fields.

Heit’s home run — her eighth of the season followed a four-pitch walk drawn by Cayenne Zinnecker after the first two outs were recorded. Heit’s home run was on a 2-2 pitch and after Zinnecker stole he fourth base of the game.

Zinnecker was 2 for 3, walked once and scored twice for Onalaska, which also received a single and run driven in from pitcher Sydney Kraus.

Kraus pitched a complete game and finished with eight strikeouts, one walk and six hits allowed.

Arcadia 16, Luther 0 (5)

ONALASKA — The Knights (2-9 Coulee) lost in five innings to the Raiders, and junior Alaina Kuehner had a hit for them.

Junior Addy Palubicki pitched for Luther and finished with six walks and no strikeouts.
