Monday boys lacrosse: Lightning close out regular season with second victory

LA CROSSE — The La Crosse co-op boys lacrosse team gave itself a spark heading into the WIAA postseason by finishing the regular season with a victory on Monday.

The Lightning (2-12) scored three times in the first quarter, four times in the second and rode the momentum to a 16-3 victory over Wayland Academy at Central High School.

La Crosse is seeded 19th for the tournament and will begin with a first-round game at 14th-seeded Sauk Prairie on May 27. Time has yet to be determined.

Onalaska’s Milo Temp scored eight goals for the Lightning, who led 7-2 at halftime before scoring nine more times in the second half.

Luther’s Jax Hendrickson had four goals and two assists, and Central’s Logan Sauter finished with two goals and one assist.

Central’s Keya Lee scored one goal and assisted on two others for La Crosse.

Central’s Owen Sauter played in goal for the Lightning and stopped 11 Wayland Academy shots, including three on the crease in the first quarter to allow his team to build its lead.
