DEFOREST — The La Crosse Lightning boys lacrosse team saw its .500 record fall to 1-2 after a 9-2 defeat at the hands of DeForest on Friday.

The Lightning are a first-year varsity program comprised of players from Central, Logan, Aquinas, Luther, Onalaska, Holmen and West Salem, and this game against the Norskies represented its first road trip after losing to Sun Prairie and beating Green Bay Notre Dame in games they hosted in Galesville on Saturday.

La Crosse scored both of its goals in the first half and trailed 3-2 heading to the third quarter. Luther junior Jax Hendrickson and Onalaska senior Shawn McKane scored goals for the Lightning, and Central senior Grant Veum assisted on both.

It was a strong first half for the Lightning, who have operated as a club team for several years before beginning as a WIAA-sanctioned program this spring.

Luther senior Brant Hundt was the Lightning goaltender, and he made 19 saves.
The team travels to Green Bay for games against Green Bay Notre Dame and Pulaski on April 12.
