Saturday boys lacrosse: Lightning win first game of season in split at invitational

MAUSTON — The La Crosse co-op boys lacrosse team picked up its first victory of the season while splitting two games in the Badger Spring Invitational at the Woodside Complex in Mauston.

The Lightning opened with a 9-7 victory over Kenosha before dropping a 14-6 game to Brookfield.
The co-op, which includes players from Aquinas, Central, Logan, Luther, Onalaska, Holmen and West Salem, now owns a 1-7 record.

The Lightning scored three goals in the second quarter to take a 5-4 halftime lead and never trailed.
Luther’s Jax Hendrickson and Onalaska’s Milo Temp had three goals apiece for the Lightning, who also received two goals and one assist from Central’s Robbie Seehafer. Hendrickson also had one assist.

Onalaska’s Oliver Heiring added four ground balls and six forced turnovers for La Crosse, which led 8-6 after three quarters.

The Lightning led Brookfield 3-2 after one quarter before allowing four goals in the second quarter. La Crosse didn’t score in the second or third quarters.

Hendrickson and Seehafer each scored three goals against Brookfield, and Central’s Luke Adams was credited with nine ground balls.

Central’s Owen Sauter had 13 saves for La Crosse, which next plays at Middleton on Monday.
