Boys basketball report: Westby struggles with perimeter shooting in opener

MAUSTON — The Westby High School boys basketball team didn’t get the perimeter shooting it wanted while opening the season against Mauston on Tuesday.

The Norsemen made just 3 of 28 attempts from the 3-point line and couldn’t come back from a nine-point halftime deficit in a 69-58 nonconference loss to the Golden Eagles.

Sophomore Griffin Nelson scored a team-high 19 points, and senior Devin Nedland added 13 points and 13 rebounds for Westby.

Whitehall 74, Eleva-Strum 55

WHITEHALL — Caydan Johnston scored 13 of his team-high 23 points in the second half for the Norse, who led 33-22 at the half.

The Cardinals were paced by four 3-pointers and 20 points by Noah Martinson and three 3s and 11 points from Bo Windjue.

La Farge 44, Brookwood 34

ONTARIO — William Wilts made 10 of 13 free throws and scored 13 of his game-high 14 points in the second half for the Wildcats. Teammate Theo Parr made a 3-pointer and backed him up with 10 points.

The Falcons were led by sophomore Brennen Mack’s 12 points.

Royall 72, Ithaca 38

ELROY — Senior Carter Uppena made four 3-pointers and scored 18 of his game-high 30 points in the first half for the Panthers.

Trey Wides added 15 points and Ben Crneckiy 11 for Royall, which had a 38-22 lead after one half.
