WEST SALEM — The West Salem High School boys basketball team turned a three-point lead into 13 by scoring the first 10 points of the second half on the way to an 83-57 nonconference victory over Tomah at West Salem Middle School on Saturday.
The Panthers (10-3) won their fourth game in a row behind a 26-point performance from junior Nathan Dillaber, who made four of his five 3-pointers in the first half. He scored 17 points in the first half with the four 3s and a three-point play to lead West Salem to a 32-29 halftime lead.
The Panthers also held Tomah sophomore Quinn Gerke to two first-half free throws and eight points in the game after he entered with a scoring average of 24.2 per game. Michael Zastoupil and Adam Brieske scored eight first-half points each for the Timberwolves (5-7).
Senior Carter Pontius added 16 points and senior Kyle Hehli 15 for West Salem, which outscored Tomah 51-28 in the second half. Sophomore Drew McConkey also scored 11 for the Panthers.
Zastoupil scored 11 and Brieske 10 to lead the Timberwolves.
Lake Mills 82, Onalaska 54
LA CROSSE — The L-Cats (10-2) made 19 3-pointers and jumped out to an early lead in a win over the Hilltoppers (11-3) in the Midwest Players Classic at the La Crosse Center.
Senior Broden Steiner scored a team-high 15 points for Onalaska. He scored 10 in the first half to try and keep the Hilltoppers close, but Lake Mills had a 40-24 by halftime. Ian Kowal and Tristan Molling scored eight points each for Onalaska.
The Hilltoppers, who lead the MVC with a 4-1 record — Holmen and Central are tied for second at 3-1 — play at Central on Tuesday.
