WAUNAKEE — The La Crosse co-op boys lacrosse team took on a couple of significant challenges against state-ranked teams on Friday and headed home with two tough losses.
The Lightning first lost a 21-4 game to third-ranked Madison Edgewood before suffering a 22-2 defeat at the hands of top-ranked Waunakee.
La Crosse (1-12), a co-op that includes players from Aquinas, Central, Logan, Luther, Onalaska, Holmen and West Salem, suited up 16 players for the games.
Onalaska’s Oliver Heiring and Milo Temp, Central’s Robbie Seehafer and Logan’s Maxim Roberts scored in the loss to the Crusaders (14-2). The Lightning played stronger in the second half, said coach Josh Vandeberg, but couldn’t recover from a large deficit.
Luther’s Jax Hendrickson and Logan’s Ben Lown scored in the loss to the Warriors (12-1).
The Lightning host Wayland Academy in a 7 p.m. game at Central on Monday.
