LA CROSSE — The Aquinas High School softball team put an end to a seven-game losing streak by walking off Sparta in an MVC game at Pammel Creek on Tuesday.
Center fielder Brynn Grabowski hit a two-run double with two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning to give the Blugolds a 6-5 victory over the Spartans.
Aquinas (7-11, 3-8 MVC) earned a sweep over the Spartans and scored three seventh-inning runs after the second out was recorded.
Grabowski’s double plated Macey Johnson and Abby Ziolkowski and gave Aquinas the answer it needed after Sparta scored twice in the top of the seventh for a 5-3 lead.
First baseman Ava Scholze and second baseman Addy Watson were both 2 for 4, and Scholze, right fielder Addison Walker and Sophie Buck each drove in a run for the Blugolds.
Scholze drove in the first run of the seventh with a single, and Ziolkowski followed with a single. Johnson ran for Scholze and scored the tying run on Grabowski’s double to left field.
Ziolkowski pitched a complete game and finished with nine strikeouts, two walks and six hits allowed.
Melrose-Mindoro 9, Whitehall 8
MELROSE — The Mustangs (14-3) won their fourth game in a row and made the most out of six hits against the Norse.
Shortstop Cooper Zeman tripled, homered and went 2 for 3 with four runs scored, four stolen bases and three runs driven in for Melrose-Mindoro. Teammate and left fielder Lauralee Stanton was 2 for 3 with a double.
Kelsey Young, Miranda Banse and Alainah Rhyme also drove in one run apiece for the Mustangs.
Tomah 13, West Salem 1 (5)
WEST SALEM — The Panthers (17-3) had an eight-game winning streak ended by the Timberwolves, who scored nine runs in the first two innings against Josie Brudos.
Tomah scored five earned runs against Brudos and held West Salem to three hits — all singles.
Brudos struck out nine, walked two and allowed 10 hits. She also singled and stole a base.
First baseman/shortstop Madison Elsen drove in West Salem’s run.
