HOLMEN — The Holmen High School ASL wiffle ball team won a crazy game over West Salem/Bangor to advance in the postseason tournament on Tuesday.
Senior Nick Hermann’s final at-bat at the Bernie L. Ferry Fieldhouse was a two-run single that provided the tying and winning runs in an 11-10 victory over West Salem/Bangor.
Holmen earned a spot in the championship game Thursday at Black River Falls.
The Vikings won a back and forth game with the Panthers and trailed by a run heading into the bottom of the fifth inning.
Landon Wietzen, Kai Rice and Aiden Romskog loaded the bases to set up Hermann’s winning hit.
Holmen fell behind twice. It answered a burst of a couple of runs for the Panthers in the top of the first with five of its own. Carter Van Lin, Kian Carlisle, Gabe Schams and Karsen Nelson keyed the first-inning rally before West Salem reclaimed the lead with runs in the third and fourth innings.
The Vikings scored four times in the fourth to get within one run. Gabriella Villareal, Connor Siverhus and Andrew Bell were the sparks for that rally.
