LA CROSSE — Holmen High School senior Brenna Schmidt and West Salem senior Oliva Maki were winners in multiple events to lead local competitors in the Knights of Columbus Relays at UW-La Crosse on Saturday.
Schmidt won the shot put (38 feet, 7 1/4 inches) and discus (123-3) and Maki the 100 hurdles (15.68) and 300 hurdles (47.04) in a 29-team invitational at the Veterans Memorial Field Sports Complex.
Holmen senior Lydia Lazarescu was another top performer among girls with a victory in the 100-meter dash (12.06) and runner-up finish in the 200 (24.45), and Onalaska senior Makena McGarry matched her by winning the long jump (18-6 3/4) and placing second in the 100 (12.7).
McGarry was also third in the triple jump (35-0 1/2).
Onalaska sophomore Elin Gilles won the triple jump (35-8 3/4) and was second in the 400 (57.83), and Onalaska senior Olivia Peterson won the pole vault (9-6).
Aquinas sophomore Sanjana Musafir was also an individual winner among the girls with a victory in the 3,200 (11:51.37).
Holmen’s girls had multiple success in relay events with a victory from Hadley Johnson, Aubrey Hauser, Linley Regan and Ava Newman in the 800 relay (1:47.63). That same group was also second in the 400 relay in 51.08.
Naomi Wedan, Isabel Archer, Reese Gamoke and Rylee Hoehn were also second in the 3,200 relay (10:10.46).
The Aquinas girls 400 relay of Emily Lepak, Alaina Elias, Sammy Davis and Alexa Myre won in 50.79.
Holmen sophomore Ruby Kinsman was second in the 1,600 (5:25.02), Onalaska junior Kendall Carlson was second in the long jump (17-10 3/4).
West Salem Maia Hutchens was second in the pole vault (9-6), and the Panthers’ 800 relay team of Brielle Moore, Emerson Holst, Bailey Rosenthal and Kaylee Skiles was second in 1:48.04.
Holmen senior Ryland Eickhoff was the only boy who was part of two victories after winning the 200 (22.72) and running with Eli Kane, Landon Barg and John Faherty to win the 400 relay (43.75).
Onalaska senior Gabe Mauss and junior Brendan Chenault recorded a victory and runner-up finish each in the boys competition.
Mauss won the long jump (21-7 1/2) and was second in the triple jump (45-10), while Chenault won the triple jump (45-11 1/2) and was second in the 400 (50.44).
Holmen senior Spencer Lowman (1,600, 4:43.29), Onalaska sophomore Wylder Burch (high jump, 6-0) and Logan junior Sam King (shot put, 53-1 3/4) also won individual events.
Kane, Barg, Faherty and Jaki Ayed were second for Holmen in the 800 relay (1:32.7), West Salem’s team of Cade Donahue, Jackson Seberg, Jameson Skifton and Josiah Wolbrink was second in the 400 relay (43.81), and the Logan team of Caleb Farmer, Ethan Davey, Tate Kujak and Quinn Passe was second in the 3,200 relay (8:31.38).
West Salem junior Isaiah Laack was second in the shot put (53-0 1/2), Luther junior Nathan Dobberstein was second in the 300 hurdles (40.93) and Onalaska sophomore Kohen Rupp was second in the pole vault (11-9).
Dobberstein was also third in the 110 hurdles (15.56) and West Salem senior Elliot Wolff was third in both the shot put (51-1 1/2) and discus (133-1).
Luther senior Ayden Livingston was third in the long jump (20-8 1/2), West Salem junior Jack Torrance was third in the high jump (6-0), and Logan’s 1,600 relay of Gavin Kreiling, Farmer, Wil Howard and Aidan Kuelz was third (3:32.53).
