LA CROSSE — The Central High School girls soccer team did its part to give the Coulee Region an all-local WIAA Division 2 sectional semifinal on Thursday by picking up a regional championship on Saturday.
The RiverHawks (12-4-2), who are seeded first and ranked ninth in Division 2 by state coaches, beat Reedsburg 2-0 to move within two victories of a berth in its first state tournament with the first regional championship in program history.
The next step will be against second-seeded Onalaska (12-5-1) at 7 p.m. Thursday in a game scheduled for Swanson Field at Logan.
Central scored once in each half to knock out the fourth-seeded Beavers (13-7-1).
Mae Yang scored in the 33rd minute with an assist from Grace Wilkerson, and Wilkerson scored with an assist from Chloe Ackerman in the 71st minute to put the game away.
Laura Lapp wasn’t forced to make any saves in goal for the RiverHawks.
Onalaska 2, Holmen 1
ONALASKA — The Hilltoppers (12-5-1) won their second game in a row for a second straight regional title.
Finley Walters and Francesca Vriens scored goals for Onalaska before Madeline Pierce converted a penalty kick for the Vikings (10-8-1).
Ellie Thesing assisted on the Walters goal, and Isabella Thesing assisted on the Vriens goal.

West Salem 9, Osceola 1
WEST SALEM — The top-seeded Panthers (14-3-1) are regional champions for the second year in a row and have won their two postseason games by a combined score of 18-1.
The Panthers will host third-seeded Baldwin-Woodville in a sectional semifinal on Thursday after an explosive night for their offense.
Amelia Karr scored three goals for West Salem, and Addy Ferguson scored two goals in the second half and added two assists.
Lilly Ciganek, Brisha Briseno, Emily Graham and Brynlee Kelly also scored once each for the Panthers.

SPRING GREEN — The second-seeded and third-ranked Blugolds (14-3-1) advanced to a sectional final at top-seeded and ninth-ranked Wisconsin Rapids Assumption (15-3-1) on Thursday.
