PRESCOTT — Two singles, two walks and a hit batter led to a three-run fourth inning the 10th-seeded West Salem High School baseball team couldn’t overcome in a 5-2 WIAA Division 2 regional semifinal loss to second-seeded Prescott on Monday.
Will Schmidt, Drew McConkey, Jackson Bonsall and Jax Vix all pitched for the Panthers and held the Cardinals to five hits, but they also combined for nine walks against just three strikeouts.
Senior designated hitter Luke Baginski was 2 for 3 with a double and knocked in a run for the Panthers, who also had five hits. McConkey added to Baginski’s hits with a triple.
Altoona 9, Logan 8
ALTOONA — The sixth-seeded Rangers (14-11) loaded the bases with one out in the seventh inning but couldn’t get the tying run across.
DIVISION 1
DeForest 11, Onalaska 1 (5)
DEFOREST — The ninth-seeded Hilltoppers (10-13) couldn’t recover from the eighth-ranked Norskies’ six-run third inning and made five errors.
Onalaska tied the game at 1 in the second inning before DeForest pulled away.
The Hilltoppers scored when Hunter Morse walked and Carson Campbell was hit by a pitch to open the inning. A Trent Oyen single loaded the bases with one out, and pitcher/center fielder Bradyn DeLong followed with a sacrifice fly to answer DeForest’s first-inning run.
DIVISION 4
Mondovi 10, Melrose-Mindoro 1
MONDOVI — The sixth-seeded Mustangs (17-6) were ousted by the third-seeded Buffaloes.
Melrose-Mindoro was within 2-1 after scoring in the top of the third, but Mondovi scored twice in the bottom of the inning and five times in the fifth to pull away.
Catcher Jayce Stetzer was 2 for 2 with a double and drew a walk to lead the Mustangs’ bats.
The third-inning run was scored after two walks and a single by Lane Fry was followed by a fielder’s choice off the bat of Eric Herzberg brought home Brody Banse. Fry was thrown out at the plate for the final out.
