LA CROSSE — The Logan High School baseball team scored two runs in the top of the seventh inning to end an 11-game win streak by Aquinas at Lee Gilbert Field on Wednesday.
The Rangers (12-8, 4-6) dealt the Blugolds’ chances at an MVC championship a blow when shortstop Bradley Check doubled home Tommy Check and second baseman Parker Lycke singled home Jackson Bosch in the seventh inning for a 7-5 victory.
Aquinas (14-3, 8-2), which is second to Holmen in the conference standings, is now two games back in the loss column with two games — both against Holmen — left. The Blugolds will need a sweep of the Vikings (13-5-1, 9-0) when they play May 19 and 22 if Holmen beats Onalaska on Friday.
Bradley Check was 3 for 4 with two doubles and two RBIs, and infielder Owen Check knocked in three runs with a double in the third for the Rangers.
Aquinas, which is ranked second in Division 2 by state coaches, loaded the bases in the bottom of the seventh but couldn’t score.
Isaac Schelfhout was 2 for 4 with two RBIs for the Blugolds, who also received two runs driven in from Jacob Thornton. Schelfhout tripled, and Thornton and Cullen Sackman doubled for Aquinas.
